I spent time on that one myself as a kid, along with the Esso Mersey I mentioned earlier. All of Esso's tankers became part of the "Petro" fleet after Esso decided to sub contract tanker operations after a small incident involving parent company Exxon, and a Tanker called Valdez off the coast of Alaska.

I could be wrong but i think the petro fife was scrapped some years back,i actually heard the captain and pilots talking about how sad he was that he wouldnt be coming back to liverpool again as the ship was being scrapped,heard them on my scanner,was a long time ago .Also ive got a few other pics of the petrofife on the mersey i'll post them up when i've scanned them

Love this Mersey Shipping thread Kenny. Thanks everyone for your shots. Dating some of the Liverpool waterfront background in the shots is just as interesting as the ships.

Not sure if I've posted this already, but here's a little vid I took from 1991 when I was in search of the Royal Iris. Found it in Birky's Egerton Docks. Sadly, it's now rotting away on the Thames. Mum and Dad and the tribe were with me at the time, but they have both passed away since then. The car in the vid is a Toyota Previa and the missus is still driving it!

As long as You adman,kenny and a few others and I keep putting photos on here and they make the same people happy and these same few keep commenting then I will keep posting pics...and When Sylvia in Australia stops sending me Emails congratulating all the photographers on here Then I will stop posting photos on here.
I put my pics on here for these people..and I will stop when These people stop commenting on them...I no longer give a toss mate about the lurkers who dont appreciate what they are looking at.
