68. The Italian Civilization building in the Eur district of Rome. The inscription on the top reads: "A people of poets, artists, heroes, saints, thinkers, scientists, navigators, flyers".

Although orginally intended to be serious, soon everybody started to smile at such a pompous inscription, and the Italians today love to call themselves "a people of poets, artists and heroes" with sarcastic and self-deprecative purposes.

Forgive me a question that only deals with the language, but doesn't "SS" mean Santi?

It does. In It. you make the plural of an abbreviation by doubling the final letter.
