Nobody knows exactly but tryzub (and dvuzub) is a very anciant pagan ukrainian symbol: it is some thousands years old at least. But this design is dvuzub and doesn't correspond to its name now.

So why the name then? I was under impression that it was directly connected to Ukrainian coat of arms -which I thought is kind of cool to have a building that looks like it.

True, but for the sake of communicating the pieces of the tryzub in English, we will use the hypotheses of its root for its names. Much like the blades at the sides might be called the taper - an appropriate name given that it was the first English word borrowed from Old Slavic for the old tapering axes that the Slavic merchant used.
