Historical photos of motorways and roads in your country

So, here you can put a pictures of your roads form the past. Let's say. Pictures from before 1989 Also pictures from before WWII are welcome As we know, some countries started building motorways, like Germany or Italy.

I'd like to see some pictures of the M1 in Britain when it first opened! It used to be completely concrete back in the day!

autosnelwegen.nl has tons of historic pics (sometimes from the 30's and 40's), but i can't hotlink them, so i have to give you a link to the time-line section.

Just simply click a year, and you'll see the fact that happened that year, and historic photos. It starts in 1933.

What I love is the cobbling for the hard shoulder! Ingenious! Looks rather attractive (if impractical).

between Ljubljana and Zagreb in 1970's:

in 1980's:

Jankomir interchange in Zagreb in 1970's:

close to Belgrade in 1970's:

not that old, the picture, as you can see on the cars, but we don't have these signs any more and only a very few are left

Does anyone have pics with signs from the former DDR (East Germany ? I'm curious what they looked like, both Autobahnen- and Bundesstrassen signs.

There are some Autobahn signs posted in the crappy motorways thread (I think), but they were taken after the reunification and the road numbers were overwritten.
