btw, i remember when they've introduced signs with yellow backgrounds. they were incredibly ugly to me, especially those for end of speed limit and end of no-overtaking zone on yellow background

Beautiful pics from ex-Yugoslavia. For us, so called Eastern Europeans Yugoslavia was usually considered as almost Western country and pictures does exactly show what I believed in years ago.

I LOLed at the "petrol 'industry'" pics.

Did anyone other than me notice... in every pic, the womens' clothes and accessories (LOL again!) match the car? OK, just the licence plate on the Mercedes, but still. :P

EDIT: I also wonder what's in the handbags.

Renault Dauphine car road map Yugoslavia with, Renault dealers and services published in late 1950's or early 1960's. The roadmap shows that the Highway "Brotherhood and Unity" is not yet fully completed.

The map also shows Renault dealerships in Yugoslavia at that time (red diamonds), authorized service mechanic stations (blue diamonds) and spare parts locations (black diamonds).

"International Bank For Reconstruction and Development, Washington, D.C., 20433
Yugoslavia and the World Bank - a World Bank Photo Feature

A new bridge on the Adriatic Highway between Neum and Zaton in Yugoslavia.
The World Bank is helping finance completion of Yugoslavia's two most important highways. The Central Highway (later renamed "Highway of Brotherhood and Unity"), which extends 720 miles from the Austrian to the Greek border, serves the main centers of the population, agriculture and industry. The Adriatic Highway will run 465 miles along the Dalmatian coast, renowned for its scenic beauty, ancient towns and temperate climate.

Since 1949, when the World Bank made its first loan to Yugoslavia for development of industry, it has lent Yugoslavia a total of $260.7 million. These funds have been used to develop agriculture, industry, hydroelectric power and transportation.

Photos by Philip Boucas for World Bank - June 1965"
