Yes, that's Polski Fiat 125P after lifting, I believe it's MR76. They were still good products in seventies to become stripped of the quality in the next decade. I owned two such cars: one made in 78' and younger in 86'.

Construction of the Ljubljana-Zagreb expressway in 1958. It was built in less than 8 months! (1st April-23rd November 1958)

The first autovía of Spain is usually quoted to be A-2 in Madrid in 1956. The one in the photo doesn't look like a motorway, but like a regular divided highway.

Sure?
I've checked on spanish Wikipedia (I know that Wikipedia isn't a very affidable source, but I'm not spanish and I don't know his motorways history)

Quote:
"...se construyó con el resto de la AP-2 entre 1974 y 1979"
I've found this on "Autopista" voice on spanian Wikipedia:
Quote:

Those are autopistas. There were a couple of autovías before that.

"Autovía" is a modern term. Motorways, expressways, or whatever high-standard road, were called "autopista" until autovías came out in the 1970s. A-2 was known as "Avenida de América" when it opened in 1953 when Dwight D. Eisenhower visited the country, and later it was commonly referred to as "Autopista de Barajas", as it comprised both A-2 and M-14 to the old part of Madrid-Barajas airport (the extension to Torrejón opened a bit later). But I'm not sure of it being a full motorway in today's sense -it probably had no access restriction. C-31 south of Barcelona opened in 1956 and was also called "Autopista de Castelldefels", though it had several at-grade intersections, and C-17 around Granollers, which opened in the 1960s, was "Autopista de La Ametlla" despite not even having a median.

The first world-class motorway to open in Spain was current C-31 between Barcelona and Montgat, which opened in 1968. It was restricted to motor vehicles and completely grade-separated. There were quite a few dual-carriageway roads back then, but they wouldn't meet all the requirements to be considered an autovía or an autopista today. The first modern toll road in Spain was Guadarrama tunnel (1950s), today AP-6, and the first toll motorway current C-32 between Montgat and Mataró.

To sum up, autovías didn't exist when the first Spanish motorways (or high-standard road, or whatever) were built. They were called autopistas, and later autovías were introduced as a word for plain dual-carriageway roads -although today both types of roads have the same standards, and dual-carriageway roads are just carreteras de doble calzada.
