Switzerland

Göschenen UR, 1955. Before completion of the Gotthard road tunnel, car transport by rail (Autoverlad) was the only means to move cars between Ticino and the north of Switzerland when the pass road was not accessible.

Airolo TI, 1980. Residents cheer at the opening of the newly completed Gotthard road tunnel. The signposted limit of 80 km/h has been remained constant ever since.

Tour de Suisse, 2000. The old pass road, "Tremola", is a popular excursion route in Summer.

Interchange northeast of Koper, Slovenia, Yugoslavia in 1975 when it was opened (M2×M10, now A1×H5). The road above leads to Koper, bottom right to Trieste, right to Ankaran, and left to Ljubljana. Check out that gray van (in the middle of the picture) driving in the wrong direction.

That road looks like the same today. Are they the same concrete slabs from the 1930s?
