New Oklahoma license plates

We're getting new license plates. These are the 6 designs being considered. They're all really the same pretty much. I really like them. Supposedly the State is leaning most towards 2.

I really prefer 2, 4, or 5.

yea... definitely #1 or #2... I like 1 the best but 2 is my second choice so i'm glad the state is leaning towards that one.

I really like 1 and 2. Though I really like 1, I think it would be hard to tell what it is from far away.

I voted for #5 and I like it the best. It's a very stylish portrayal of Will Rogers who pretty much sums up what Oklahoma is about, as a Cherokee Indian, an Oklahoma Cowboy, a farm boy, a show-biz star, a comedian, and pretty much America's biggest star during the Great Depression. But it's not just what he's about so much as that everyone in Oklahoma knows Will Rogers and his legacy, and there's a lot of things named after him in this state. He's also a good lookin guy. A good "immortal spokesperson" for our state...never seen a bad picture of Will Rogers.

Every state gets two statues to be put in the Capitol Building. Oklahoma's two statues are Will Rogers and I believe Carl Albert. All 100 of the statues are pointed front away from the center, so as you approach the Senate or House chambers they're facing you then. All except Will Rogers' whose is pointed facing Congress because of a quote he once said about keeping one eye on Congress even in death.

Put that on our license plates.

The problem every time Oklahoma has tried in the past to draw on its fascinating heritage is that it was always done wrong, never stylishly. But that license plate actually looks very good for a change. It would be a shame in the future to avoid capitalizing Oklahoma's heritage because it looked bad in the past. The only reason it looked bad is just because it was done by people that have no taste and no eye for visual graphics.

I also think #2 looks really good.

to people who don't know who he is and his importance to Oklahoma will often see this as rather tackey.

Its great.. But I guarantee 95% of Americans, especially TODAY have no clue who Will Rogers is, and they really don't care. Even though he was important to us, and we still continue to learn about him in our schools.

I understand the historical importance of cowboys and oil derricks in Oklahoma, but they arent exactly graceful. Why not use perhaps the state flower?

I agree I think it's a horrible idea to pimp oil derricks.

I like number 2 the best. It leaves the strongest impression, IMO.

But my point was is that it shows our states signifigance in history, i mean a friggin bird and some flowers beneath it?? that's just dumb in my opinion. we're not known for flowers and birds... we're known for cowboys, indians, and oil... look at most of the other state quarters.. they have things that represent them and have things that most people know.

There are more flattering ways to flaunt our heritage. The design I drew and submitted had a cowboy hat and a skyline that included BOTH skyscrapers and oil derricks behind it. I'm pretty sure the "finalist" designs were just plain ugly and I'm not going to chose plain ugly because I'm obligated by default to go with the heritage. That's not how it works. I'm obligated by default to not go with the ugly.

Let's see.. Scissor tails and flowers.... and a woman and a child holding a basket...

the best one was a wheat field with an oil derrick in the background..
