Now the NEW MASAA will be one way and the OLD MASAA will be the other way = Double the width so each lane is now double giving more space and we first had 3 levels (GROUND, FIRST and ROOF ) but will now have 5 levels (BASEMENT.GROUND,FIRST,SECOND and ROOF) so effectivel;y space has been increased by approximately over 330% ! (thats the figure i get when i work it out)
the best explanation

A Graphic explanation

The MASAA was narrow initially so they made a new MASAA parallel to the old one - they then demolished the old one and opened the new one and we now use the new one
They are now re-constructing the old one so that it is in balance with the new one (also 5 levels)
AND finally the two will be joint and "traffic" will flow in both the new and "old" reconstructed MASAAs. Traffic was normally split two ways in the old MASAA - one way from SAFAA to MARWA and the other from MARWA to SAFAA and the middle had two narrow lanes for wheelchair traffic going both ways.

(thats the figure i get when i work it out)

To make it clearer look at the following pics.

This is how we used to make SAEE in the old MASAA

This is how it will eventually be,inshaAllah - at the moment we are only using the red area(new MASAA) and entering it via a piece of the old MASAA which is already reconstructed (see the green arrows)

SHAMIYYA UPDATES

These photos were taken on the 22nd,23rd,24th and 25th JULY - its the same areas but on different days showing how fast they working.

The area is around the old SHAMIYYA area -

Infront of the HARAM they have already dug a huge crater preparing for the foundations of the expansion...

looking at the excavation with the HARAM behind and the excavation infront

looking at the same excavation from another angle so that you can see Intercontinential in the background...

looking at the excavation from the back so you can see HARAM infront of it and ABRAJ etc in the background behind the HARAM

looking at excavation with MASAA in background and on right, part of HARAM

another view with HARAM behind excavation

another view

another

on the 25th...see how far they have gone...

some other construction/demolition area pics

seems they demolishing the Minarets infront of Kng Fahd Gate - not sure though

Also see in the background - everything in Shamiyya upto Intercontinental on the Malik Fahd side -all demolished

Nopes they are not demolishing the Minarets its just a maintenance work. 3 months back it was covered fully but now they have uncovered half of it

hmmm i dont really think so.... i think the masaa was open air in the early days.... btw from the videos in youtube.... i miss the look of the old Zamzam building which was only meters from the kabba.... to bad they installed the new water system...... btw i recommened watching all parts of history of makkah on youtube ! HIGHLY EDUCATIONAL AND RICH IN FACTS ! for example the fact that mohammed and the sahaba's when went to mecca prayed towards jerusalem instead of mecca ? then jebreel came and showed mohammed that he should pray towards mecca not jerusalem ! wow

They are working round the clock - non stop

May Allah abundantly reward Khadimul Haramain Malik Abdullah and grant him a long life so he can see the completion of these major expansions that he started.Aameen

Mashallah, thanks for pics.

minarets have to be tallers soon... otherwise all the new towers will be the boss.

are you suggesting making 600 m high manaraat?

By the way manaraat is a plural word, how come you are adding s to it?
