that will happen in high school!

And here, in SSC, it is happening today, because we think
the original photographers deserve more than having people yank
their photos off the internet and make a thread leaving the impression
they took the pix themselves! Not very professional, is that?

No need to be bitter, TalB. Join us! Grab your camera, get out, expose yourself to the NY air and have fun. There's nothing like discovering places for yourself and trying to present them to a big and grateful audience over here.

(Come to think of it, I REALLY need to get my Innsbruck, Nuremberg, Udine and Bratislava pics online...)

That is exactly the truth, Bahnsteig4! Once you start taking your own photos it is certainly less satisfying Googling til your fingers ache..... and you can get exactly the shots you want in exactly the areas you choose. Point and shoot cameras are getting very cheap these days.....

^I second that. I actually did a couple of small googled threads way back when I first joined--the dark side, I know--and I can honestly say it feels much better when the positive feedback you receive for a thread is directed at your photos rather than ones you posted from the net.

I got u covered with that too. TalB we can make it a friendly competition to see who can finish Nyc and its surroundings first. Imagine how much more pride you will take in your tours when you did the actual work. I must tell you it is very satisfying.

I will just break it down for those who are not nerdy leftists like I am. SSC does not have the same nature of SSP. In the long run, it is most likely that new pics will not placed here b/c of the rule, causing them to be everywhere else. If my predicition is true, in the likleyhood it would be, it most likely the rule should be repealed if this section goes for weeks and months w/o any new shots following the rule. The solution would mostly be to repeal it b/c it wasn't issue before the split. Also, I know SSC does not support having a section that could end up being only semi-active. Then again, I know that a mod/admin will probably try to pull a Ken Livingstone, who expanding the congestion pricing zone and increased the tax in London after it failed, as their excuse to keep only causing for lesser pics to be shown. Again, this is not an arbitrary claim, it is based on the nature of fourmers whose names will remain anonymous.

Why? It could catch on any time. I'll be adding in it every week at least. What is it with you and analogies anyway. You are overdosing on analogies. Be direct for once in your ssc career Talb.

Try reading a news article nygirl, b/c I do and which is why about half of what I post a day happens to articles on projects and events unlike a the majority who just gives endless ramblings.

NOTE TO ALL THREADS:

Thanks to everyone who is crediting the photos they post, or at least saying they are taken from various internet sources! However, there remain a number of people who are not doing so. Perhaps deleting completely unreferenced entries might be the only way to get the attention of these people.... rather than have that happen, please comply with the new crediting rule. If you cannot remember where you got the photos from, just say they are not yours but are from Flickr, Photobucket, etc... if you know the exact credit, please supply it as a courtesy to the original photographer! Thank you.

What a snobby, incoherent post that was. I have no idea what you are trying to say. Sound it all out first, then preview before posting so as to make sure you don't sound totally ridiculous. And now think... what did anything you said have to do with anything I said? I pretty much offered to lend you shots you may want for your tours of Ny and I get this mumbo jumbo?

When this seperation started at SSP at least half the threads posted there didn't credit the photos where they had to be questioned and more than half the new threads posted there ended up getting deleted. And it was at a rate of only a few new threads a day.

I got tired of it so I made it so any new threads posted there had to be approved before they became visible, meaning that the only threads that would appear would have the photos credited.

So if that ends up continuing to be a problem that maybe a good idea to consider, and any moderator can go in approve them once they review the threads.

I hope it doesn't come down to that... most people are coming round and crediting photos... the number who refuse to, or ignore pms, or are angry about having to do something that is a simple courtesy to the original photographer is shrinking all the time....
hopefully soon it will be smooth sailing!

Yes that would be great.

But if the worst comes to the worst it would be alot more convenient and easier to mod the forum by approving new threads, as opposed to having to visit each individual thread to question and PM people on a continuous basis forever and ever and ever.

My change was made because I couldn't be bothered with that. But I guess it depends on how it goes here, and you'll most likely figure out what's next to do best here.

Do we have to provide a link for each and every single photo a la SSP? Or, if we got all our photos from one source, is it OK to just link to that source at the beginning of the thread?

Yes that's correct, one link for all photos under that link. And who the photographer was. But you should have contacted me there about this.

Actually, you were the one who told me I had to provide a link for each and every photo in my Germany-by-rail threads, since each photo was on a different page and since the photographer was unknown (I got them from Windows Live Local).

I hope we don't have to do that here, too.

No, a link at the beginning is fine, but then every time you make a new entry say where that batch is coming from. We are being very flexible on it.

Are the posts in the Found City Photos section at SSP frequent or sporadic each day?
