Lebanon - one photo a day

Since other countries are doing this, Lebanon deserves to have a similar thread. This thread will be updated on a daily basis and will include photos from various parts of Lebanon.

Here's the first photo:

Bcharre is a village located in North Lebanon, 1400 meters high from the sea level, at the top of the Holy Valley of Qadisha. It is the hometown of the mystic poet, painter and philosopher, Gibran Khalil Gibran

Beiteddine is a village in the Shouf region (mount Lebanon) at 850m and is famous for its palace complex which is Lebanon's best example of early 19th century Lebanese architecture.
Today Beiteddine, with its museums and its gardens, is one of Lebanon's major tourist attractions. The palace hosts the Beiteddine festival every summer.

Faqra is a town located 55km far from Beirut. It hosts roman temple at an elevation of 1,550 meters. It is also famous for its natural bridge. The bridge is so perfect it is hard to believe it was created by nature.

Jeita Grotto is a compound of caves in Lebanon located 18km north from Beirut in the Valley of Nahr al-Kalb. This grotto is comprised of two caves, an upper and lower. The caves feature many stalactites and stalagmites and a river runs through the lower cave. Much of the caves are underwater.

Jeita Grotto has one of the largest stalactites in the world, measuring 8.2 m in length. (it's the one in the photo)

Tyre, known as Sour, is the fourth largest city of Lebanon. It was an island in ages past, celebrated for its beauty. It is located 83 km south of Beirut. It was the capital of Ancient Phoenicia.
The Roman levels of Tyre are of such importance that every effort has been made to preserve them. To determine the exact location of eariler Phoenician and Canaanite levels soundings are being made throughout the excavated areas.
Roman Tyre thus has been preserved for present and future generations to see and to admire.
