Indeed, we are jealous of the emptiness of the roads and the squares. And of a city built in the middle of nowhere.

Btw, I feel pity for the people of Turkmenistan. The wealth of their country could have been distributed better instead of being spent on empty highways ang ugly buildings.

Turkmenistan has huge resources of natural gas, and much of the revenue is spent on renovating the cities, especially Ashgabat, but also other cities. However, this doesn't reflect the actual economy of Turkmenistan, which isn't a lot beyond government-run institutions. The average salary is only like $ 300 per month, but citizens get a lot of subsidized goods, apparently they get 120 liters of free fuel per month.

You in the "West" think that you are the most clever, you think that you can to decide to whom and what policy to conduct and to dispose of natural resources. Turkmen people happy thanks to the wise and far-sighted government.

Never. That would be really embarrassing. People could be killed.

All the Turkmenistan pictures you see are one or two roads in or near one suburb of one city and on the airport side of that one city. The rest of the road network is a rather OK 1+1 and not motorway at all.

This is all a state secret in Turmenky land so shhhh...say nothing and find more clothes for the emperor.

Its all located between the International Airport and the Presidential Palace a few km away. Taxi Drivers at the airport are not allowed to bring any foreigners into the 'old city' a few km further east or they will be jailed.

Only around 2% of the people of Turkmenistan have internet connections and they ALL work for the government...just saying.

Turkmenistan has The Worlds Worst Economy Airline too. This is a disgraceful situation for a landlocked country where you gotta fly everywhere. Even Uzbekistan Sudan and North Korea score higher for basic service. So don't fly there to take any photos.

Nonetheless, terrible rankings on Skytrax for in-flight entertainment, seat comfort, service efficiency, staff response to passenger requests, and staff language skills make it the worst airline you can find.

A new stadium in Ashgabat.

Interesting: very little parking (around 400 spaces). Many of those marble buildings along wide highways have almost no parking.

About taxi. You wrote another myth. All are free, anyone can go wherever he wants. Taxi new Hyundai. Prices are about $ 2 in the city. Petrol price $0.22 for 1 litre. Every driver in the Turkic state is entitled to 120 litres of free petrol every month.

Public transport is even cheaper. All new Hyundai buses.

Why, if I write the truth about the country you call it "propaganda"? And when another user writes a blatant lie, you do not delete?

Turkmenistan construct the new Ashgabat-Turkmenbashi autobahn. TDH

Construction of the autobahn is the only one of its kind project to be realized in our country. For the project successful implementation, foreign companies with the relevant experience in this field will be invited as consultants. The new high-speed highway – “Ashgabat-Turkmenbashi”, will extend from the 24th kilometer of the “Ashgbat-Dashoguz” highway in Derveze etrap (Akhal velayat) to the city of Turkmenbashi.

Speaking of the main characteristics of the 564-km autobahn, the Vice-Premier informed that the 30-meter wide highway will have two lanes (15-meter-wide each); construction is projected of 9 check points, 9 nine service centers and 7 filling stations along the highway; 5 traffic department buildings, 3 camping areas, 20 parking lots and public catering services; 12 over- and underpasses; 217 concrete bridges; the total height, of traffic concentration, is 1m 22 cm.

Nine entrance and exit drive ways are planned for construction over the total length of the autobahn. A radial bridge at the beginning of the autobahn and seven bridges of similar structure in the intermediate entrance and exit drive ways are projected for construction as well. The autobahn will be ended with a circular interchange; lighting and radar systems will be installed along the highway.

A salient feature of the highway is - it will not be crossed by any other transport route. Besides, pedestrian crossings are not allowed on the autobahns - they are designed only for fast-speed traffic in the frames of the speed rates regulated by the established rules.

Traffic at the autobahns of bicycles, motorbikes, agri-machines and trucks is prohibited. To prevent animals’ penetration on the autobahn, the road will be fenced off by the wirecloth.

Highly experienced specialists will be engaged in the construction of the “Ashgabat-Turkmenbashi” high-speed highway.
