The place's an absolute craphole, but somehow interesting in its way: the Cour des Miracles meets oriental souk and african market, I guess.

Basically you can find everything there, from smuggled cigarettes, to 35€ men suits, "designer" handbags and apparel, or falsified official documents etc. Nicknamed by some people I know who experienced illegall staying in France "Préfecture de Barbès", since it's often the place where they got their first documents...

Next station up north is Château Rouge, the place can be really dodgy, especially at night, I wouldn't advise it to any tourist.

That's bad enough. Je parle toujours de Château Rouge, c'est glauque.

Doesn't look like a craphole from the pictures. It looks like Paris. Just because many brown people live there doesn't make it a craphole.

Nice pictures of the vibrant Gare du Nord area.

Generally speaking, the whole north of Paris has improved a lot in the latest years. I remember a decade ago, you would risk your life in getting out at Stalingrad during the evening (Stalingrad was known for its crack smokers). Nowadays, it's becoming a trendy area with bars and cafés !

Too many people in this part of Paris!
Walksides are not large enough!

Franchement, Minato Ku, je suis toujours étonné par tes photos: comment fais-tu pour photographier les gens d'aussi près?
