I hate it when they write the Latin characters version in English, when it's about names; why not Ad Dawhah instead of Doha?

And who would understand then? Doha is said almost in all world languages. Direct transliteration is not always useful.

If you go to Doha, you must really be ignorant not to know it's called Ad Dawhah in Arabic. Just like you're ignorant if you go to Rome and don't know it's called Roma in Italian.

I myself hate Dutch translations of German/French cities etc. But i prefer the English translation in case the original name is written in a non-latin language.

So i prefer Ličge, Köln, but also Doha/Beijing, and not Luik, Keulen, Dawhah/Peking.

In Chinese it's Beijing, not Peking. Anyway, Chris, I see you're a mod in the whole Infrastructure & Mobility section. How are you handling it? Need a help?

Peking is the Dutch translation.

That only English transliteration of original Arabic script. Then Bangkok should not be named as such, right?

No, that's the Latin version of it, in Arabic language. And who said Bangkok shouldn't be called like that in English? I'd just rather see Krung Thep on signs there.

They chose it so, I wouldn't complain, it's their decision. As it is for Bangkok, Beijing, Hanoi etc.

You can put it on your signs, if you wish.

Very nice pics. The sign designs are almost identical to those of the UAE.

Ha, now imagine how a foreigner would drive there if all their prohibitive/permissive signs had textual directions like in the USA. I bet not many of you could read "No passing", "No right turn", or "Left lane ends" in Arabic

Probably so people can actually pronounce the names without much difficulty.

I think I liked the Anglicized versions better.
