Madrid cèst different

Kika you don't have to excuse yourself when dealing with that Frenchwoman who questiones Madrid's skyline. Of course Madrid's Castellana skyline is already able to compete and win Paris La Defense. I know very well both cities and Paris La Defense is already dating and not really gloomy, but rather ringard (shabby). Madrid will overcome Paris skyline soon, London and Frankfurt are the rivals. Paris is no more a leading city, last interesting thing they built was the Tour Eiffel, and it already stinks. Paris doesn't count any more, it's just a place for shopping and coffee-ing, but real money is fleeing the decadent French capital. Best regards from Dubai.

Still on the making

I lived in Madrid for 3 years, in Paris for another three, also in gorgeous Zagreb for two years. Now I'm a little bit everywhere in the Middle East. My impression is that Madrid is one of the very few western european cities which can claim to be fully alive and still on the making in spite of its dense past. Its current skyline, already quite impressive for a big western european capital (generally not so fond of skyscrapers) will be soon completed by the Operación Chamartín that includes 21 high rise buildings, 6 of them higher than 250 m. and two higher than 300 m. Not just a question of quantity, because some of the leading architects are working in Madrid's projects: the new headquarters of BBVA Bank in Madrid (Castellana north) by Herzon&De Meuron (campus complex that includes a 107 m tower), Adequa Tower (103 m., another one for the long collection of 100m buildings in Madrid) by Rafael de La Hoz), El Corte Inglés in Azca district (105 m), Norman Foster and Calatrava in the new Ciudad de la Justicia and the new conventions center, next to the Cuatro Torres complex, an outstanding singular circular building (120 m) by Tuñon&Mansilla. The first two are already being built and the others will start soon. At the same time new developements are taking place in the new business districts of Mendez Alvaro in the south of the city (it includes the new headquarters of Repsol) and Ifema Crisalia. So I hope that by next year we will be able to appreciate a rather new Madrid skyline, but the real richness of this city is its rithym, the compulsory thirst of live of its inhabitants and their friendliness. Just trip over there to discover the third largest western european city after Paris and London.

hi madridhere

hi madridhere, congratulations for your photos, may I ask how do you get them ... bueno, te hablaré en español, aunque no sé si existe algún código sobre el idioma en la página.

i hope madrid keeps its skyline as modest as that.... it looks romantic with its old buildings (standing in the same league as paris, rome and london)... but there lots of other spanish cities with amazing skyline!

Madrid have a decent skyline.....not very dense I admitted, but for a city like this one, a taller or densier skyline is not gonna make any difference in adding more beautiful to it....a skyline is as good as the eye of the beholder....so, I think I can take chances by ranking this city with a 10/10

i feel Madrid skyline is boring sometime but awesome at the same too. London and Paris skyline are very easy to differentiate. Madrid skyline is more like the mix of Paris of London
