The reason for extending the runway would be purely to accomodate larger aircraft

You look at what Coventry airport was 10 years ago and what it has become now. Something along the lines of London city would be ok. Connections to european cities. They could use those mid sixe BAE planes that carry about 60 people

yes and they have low noise emissions too, one of the reasons they are allowed at London City. Routes to the odd European city would be great, if they went to Prague or Amsterdam im sure id use it!

Sounds like a good idea to me. Im sure Nottingham Airport already has chartered planes that depart from there (private Jets etc)
The buildings in the facility are in need of an update aswell they look really tatty.

I can't see any real demand for using Nottingham airport now or anytime in the near future. EMA is plenty close enough, modern and has the capacity. We don't need another commercial airport.

Does anyone know any operators (private, chartered whatever!) that operate from this airport that are online?

There might not be public demand for another airport but if it is viable, safe and legal for larger aircraft to use Nottingham Airport (as seems likely) then there may be demand from one or more of the smaller budget airlines who would be happy to pay landing and servicing fees that would inevitably be much lower than EMAs.

The place is a mess at the moment but as the aerial shots show, the site is quite large and the extended runway, together with the two smaller runways would be capable of handling a lot more traffic.

Would it be possible to extend the runway like that? The yellow line runs down quite a long and steep hill at the end surely aircraft wouldn't be able to take off going down hill.

I dunno I just went by what the article said about extending the east west runway by 500 metres, its at 1000m now so up to 1500m. I assumed they would extend it that way too rather than have to re-route the road and go the other way. They would have to cut and fill the land if it sloped downwards then

I would imagine that it would be more viable to offer private jet flights from their than a small budget airline.

I always thought that was on the other side of the A52. If these houses do get built something seriously needs to be sorted out with Radcliffe Road, Lady Bay Bridge and the area around there.
The amount of traffic there atm is crazy add another 1000 or so cars and it'll be mayhem.

'ON-THE-BUSES' DOUBLE-DECKERS IN NOTTINGHAM
CLAIRE CARTER
09:00 - 26 March 2008

Traditional British double-decker buses are making a comeback in Nottingham after more than 30 years.

Passengers will be able to hop on and off the back of the buses, paying their fare to a conductor.

The Routemaster buses - which shot to fame in 1970s sitcom On the buses - were last used in Nottingham in 1977.

Two heritage routes have survived in London, where buses operated until 2005.

The service is being launched by Nottingham's Bellamy coaches.

"The buses are part of the British heritage," said director Karina Murray.

"People always remember the older buses, but this was something that faded out in the 80s and 90s. We wanted to put Nottingham back on the map and reintroduce the buses on a regular service."

She added: "Research has found buses with a driver and conductor could provide a more efficient service. Passengers do not have to wait to pay the driver, therefore getting on and off is much quicker and the bus is not stationary for long periods."

The buses will operate a six-day service between the city and Arnold via Sherwood and Carrington from April 7. This will be known as service 20 and will start at Parliament Street in the city, running from 7am to 7pm Monday to Friday, every 20 minutes. On Saturdays the service will run every 30 minutes, from 7am until 5.30pm.

Bellamy Holidays Ltd will also be using the buses for day trips to Crich Tramway Village, Home of the National Tramway Museum on May 25 and 29.

???

So they are going to launch this.. alongside the green 50's routes, and expect people to use it? Is this anything to do with NCT?

Some silly sod will fall out the back when running for a bus and get hurt. You just know it'll happen.

Yeah the article raises a lot of questions....like how we now suddenly have another public bus operator in Nottingham? (Bellamys are a big local coach/school bus operator) Is this a one off route? Will it be integrated with NCT or Trent Barton in any way?

Its a bit of a gimmick, probably a one off and might not turn out to be viable. But this could actually be pretty big, Routemasters are still really popular and are a British icon - their reintroduction in Nottingham could get a huge amount of publicity. The last Routemaster service ended in London in December 2005 and this will be the first commercial schedule service to run anywhere since then. A lot of people will love the novelty and the idea of having a conductor too.
