Which of the two buildings is the Holiday Inn Express going to be? The bigger 'L' shaped one or the smaller one? I'm assuming the smaller one.

This is slightly negative but isn't the hotel market in Sheffield already saturated? I wont make a list of hotels but surly the supply outstrips demand as it is, without the addition of this hotel.
This hotel in being built, is great for the construction industry and development in Sheffield but wont it just crowd further an already overcrowded market? If am wrong in any of my assumptions, correct me, but in this hotel opening it will just lead to a closure of another hotel and leave another empty building, in an already derelict (in parts) city centre. |

Completely the opposite - one of the reasons Hallam and Uni don't have their graduations at the same time is that the city simply can't accommodate the void of hotel rooms.
We don't actually have that many hotel rooms, compared to Leeds or Manchester. Not to mention events like the snooker, doc/fest, sensoria etc which attract people from further afield. When U2 came to town, the hotel rooms sold out almost as fast as the tickets did

That's fair enough that the hotels are full on big events, but I just thought that on a weekly basis hotels would have struggled the beds they have. Wasn't the hotel connected to Brammel Lane finding it difficult to attract custom not long back?
I just thought that Manchester/Leeds would have a bigger market for hotel rooms due to more developed airports (especially Manchester) and the fact they have a larger service economy in them cities, which could result in stop overs from overseas employees of organisation which are stationed their.

well as long as the city can sustain these hotels then thumbs up. I think we need a lot more in the city before we get any more hotels though, sevenstone being one of them

I don't know whether this had been mentioned before, but the new bridge off the Wicker is called the 'Smithfield Bridge' apparently. Also, it's now in place and the flood defence work should commence soon.

Update on the hotel, but no more after this because I have just moved down to London, but I took more skyline shots and will put those up next week.
