I get detailed information about airport plan for next 10 years from one of my friends from other forum. He went to World Aviation forum in Germany and had opportunity to make an interview with Taoyuan International Airport Company (It is the first time they show off.)
Pretty much, they are preparing to expand airport and launch more air routes within 10 years. 3 years runway renovation is underway. The land expropriation for runway 3 and satellite terminal is on its way (It will take age.). For terminal 3, they are preparing tender document for bidding of design consultancy service. Tomorrow (10/27, 2011), they will have seminar for this bid. There are three phases of Taoyuan International airport development in next 20 years. Phase 1 Runway 3 and new satellite terminal development 2011 to 2015 will start move WC taxiway 2016 to 2020 will start expand parking apron and terminal 3 construction is underway In 2012, Aviation museum will be demolished. Company talked that there are several plan for it, such as integrate with terminal 3 development or building new one nearby airport. Phase 2 2017 to 2020 new cargo terminal, parking apron and aircraft maintenance facility 2019 to 2030 satellite development 2026 to 2030 runway 3 construction and new taxiway Phase 3 When phase 1 and phase 2 is finished, terminal 1 will redevelop and old cargo terminal will remove |

For Toayuan International airport itself, there is no cue state that when it will be privatization. But I don't think it is necessary as many great airports still own by government.
I think government should think about take away government procurement regulation from this company. Department of Transporation should not have any seats in board of directors. However, the biggest problem is there is salary limit. Last edited by williamchung7; October 26th, 2011 at 12:43 PM. |

Why are they redeveloping terminal 1? They should redevelop terminal 2!!! I thought terminal 3 is scheduled to be completed in 2018? |

Terminal 2 has too much design mistakes. Its not even 10 years old yet and there are so many problems already. Renovation will cost more for the airport in the long run. Water Leakage, design caused inefficiencies etc. is giving the world a bad image about TTIA. I hope they will consider rebuilding terminal 2 to blend in with the rest of the airport. Terminal 3 design should be MODERN but it should also blend in with the area of the airport itself. Take for instance T1 and T2, the design is completely different so it looks like those two dont belong next to each other..

that's why it would be easier if they build a huge-azz terminal 3 that makes up capacity for both terminal 1 & 2 then knock down both old terminals once terminal 3 opens!! terminal 3 can be one brand new airport!

T3 terminal will be more than 420,000 square metres floor area. The development site will be 5 ha.
The current conecept for T3 terminal is multi-function passenger terminal, it will have shopping centre and conference centre inside the terminal. The entire development will also includes ground transportation centre located between T2 and T3, passenger transportation systems and commerical building will locate to east of T3 (about 65,000 square metres). |

Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport was caught by surprise last week when a construction company withdrew machines and workers from two aging runways it was hired to renovate.
On Friday, Taoyuan International Airport Corp (TIA) said it would seek damages from the contractor. The Ministry of Transportation and Communications said the incident would not affect the runway renovation project, scheduled to be completed by 2014. TIA said in a statement that it had failed to make contact with the owner of the contractor — known as Chia Shan (佳山) in Chinese — since Oct. 21, when the company without warning withdrew all machines and workers it had dispatched to the construction site. The contractor sent an e-mail to TIA on Oct. 24, saying it could not fulfill the contract because of financial problems. TIA said it sent a return e-mail demanding that the contractor resume its operations or have its contract terminated and be sued for compensation based on the Government Procurement Act. In the wake of the firm’s pullout, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Legislator Yeh Yi-jin (葉宜津) asked Minister of Transportation and Communications Mao Chi-kuo (毛治國) to replace TIA chairman Yeh Kuang-shih (葉匡時) immediately and launch an investigation to see whether corruption was involved. Mao said the ministry would discuss the case and review TIA personnel before the end of the year. TIA is wholly owned by the government. Mao said the runway renovation project would not be affected by the dispute because the contractor was only hired for one of the six preliminary phases of the construction project. |
