yeah boston looks like a very interesting place, i get the impression that its got a compact urban core and less sprawl than other, 'newer', parts of the US, is that right?

Boston's "urban core" is pretty dense, as are the inner-core suburbs, including Cambridge, Quincy, Brookline, Newton, Waltham, Chelsea, etc. However, once you get outside the 128/95 highway area, you see more low-density sprawl like you'll see in other cities...
