it is acually located in a cluster of highrises. The tallest building in this area is a 225meter building. The East Pacific Centre (300m+) will overtake this building's height in the next few years. The one in teh middle of the picture is around 165meters tall.

They need to construct sub urban areas and shift the population from those dirty looking crammed up appartments and blow those appartments up and build a huge park over there

Don't underestimate what HKgers can do. They are still one of the worlds top financial capitals all these years for a reason.

IMO snapdragon was right
Currently China major east cities GDP percapita is close to 10000$
assuming GDP percapita of shenzhen triple and population expand to 20M
shenzhen will well ahead of HK, if not, that only means one thing :
China so called "peaceful rise" fail. Cause HK's GDP isn't that big compared to Major world cities. and I'd say it's already reached it's full potential
There are should be at least 10cities GDP >500Billion for a country as big as china,
1.If major China cities GDP percapita can reach 65% that of HK , HK would drop to No.8
2......................................................................75% that of Hk, HK would drop to No.15
3.......................................................................85%that of HK, HK would drop to No.22

PS: HK's fame is way above it's true strength. And don't underestimate ShenZhen, although it was a village before!

How do you figure that HK has already reached its full potential? That seems random. and how does it make China's 'peaceful rise' fail? Shenzhen growing stronger economically and larger in population will only serve to add to Hong Kong. They are cities that are abutting neighbors, I find it suspect that one could go up while the other stagnates. And believe me, I don't underestimate Shenzhen. It's a hell of a city. But it has a long way to go before it can displace HK
