Dragör is like a carbon copy (or the other way around) of Limhamn, the Malmö suburb/neighbourhood I grew up in. The difference being that Limhamn has more than twice the population and some ugly commieblocks.

^I'm guessing the age would be from the Danish glory days for both places wouldn't it?

Yeah it's crazy - that "little" airport sure does a great job in seperating Amager..

Had in not been for my grandparents ( and a farm trip with the school I remember very little from other than drinking fresh warm milk - eww ) I doubt I would ever have been there..

But that is certainly about to change - man I can't wait for spring.. a softice, some shades on and walking in some cozy little tudor village with thatched roofs - does it get more Danish than that?

Denmark and Greenland are very close. I can't even imagine Greenland splitting away. There are many Danes and people from Greenland who have intermarried. I know more people who are half Danish, half from Greenland than i know people from Greenland, Faroe Islands and Bornholm combined.

Oh, and a great book about Greenland that I just finished is the semi-biographical "Kalak Kalak" by Kim Leine. Some of it also takes place in Norway.

One day I have to go to that magical island. If it wasn't so damn cold I have only flown over it and it just looks amazing. Like another planet!

Yes, both Danish and Faroese, which is like a kind of Old Norse.

Ok. But Faroese is the common everyday spoken language? I read somewhere that the use of Danish language is decreasing. Kind of like Swedish language in Finland.

Yes, it's like on Iceland where the local language is the primary and then comes Danish..
( I'm not even sure Danish is tought on Iceland anymore btw, but it was 15 years ago - one of my best mates back then was Icelandic )

I can certainly understand if they see learning Danish as a hasle, but the problem is they lack educational facilities and have to go to Denmark to get educated..

In the future with more and more classes in English I'm sure English will do, but we're not at that point yet - plus I'm sure that young people growing up in such an isolated and rural place long for some density and a little "big city" once in a while..
Plus the chance of bagging a great well paying job is probable a lot greater on the mainland..

FREKI,
I think Danish is still taught in Icelandic schools, at least that's what one of my class mates told me (that they learned it when she was in high school/middle school).

I have no idea..

They do sound kinda simular and are both closely related to old Norse - but with the 1000s of dialects troughout the Nordics that evolved from Old Norse ( and quite a few languages too ) I would expect they would have a hard time communicating verbally..

But I dunno..

EDIT: Just read on Wiki that the Faroese find Icelandic pretty understandable - especially in writing, but the Icelandic don't as such understand Faroese
