Not good enough I believe.

The selelect committees are made up of the very people debating the Bill in the first place, and as for reading the same document 3 times in the house that is going to approve it is a poor substitute for an upper chamber that has the full weight of a written constitution, the expertise of the the Supreme Court to guide it. Then once the "parliment - upper and lower" are satisfied, our elected head of state can sign - on behalf of the people who have elected him - into law.

I think the fact the we once had a second chamber, showed that our our founding fathers and mothers new it's worth. Just think - we would have to build anywhere - the Senate Chamber is ready and waiting

When we had the Legislative Council they were appointed by the GG on the recomendation of the PM hardly representative of the people.

You mean our rather loyal monarchist founding fathers I don't think we had any founding mothers, did we?

Hmmmm. Me thinks a New Zealand republic could be in place much sooner than expected. I'm thinking this will be passed easily as a large percent of the NZ public supports the idea of a republic.

No thanks. I'll move to France if that happens. Besides, there's nothing wrong with the current name, as we have already established.

Anyone in favour of a German parliamentary system in the future Republic of New Zealand say aye.

Ask any Melbournian and they will tell you that the public transport system is under tremendous strain. Let's not even mention the droughts etc.

Kiwi's are very quick to forget just how lucky they are to be in New Zealand. It is as good as it gets. Ample water, very few natural disasters, a growing population that isn't out of control, ample green space, beautiful cities that are well maintained and improving every day, very low crime rates, no large security threats from other countries, a lifestyle second to none, little or no corruption, the most peaceful nation on earth. What more do you want ?

You can turn your tap on and drink the water that comes from it, you can flick a switch and the lights come on (you can even afford it), you can have 3 fantastic meals a day (some of the best quality in the world), you have a choice between driving one of 3 cars (the national average) or taking clean, efficient and safe public transport, foreigners live side by side in peace (even Indians are not harassed here). The list can go on and on. No country is perfect and they all have issues to deal with pertaining to infrastructure and energy. New Zealand is damn close to perfect and I know of many people who will give an eye to live here. Next time just be a little more grateful before you start proclaiming that this is a third world country. We are not even remotely close to being third world.

well, for us Filipinos, NZ is no 3rd world man.. kiwis are lucky they live in NZ..compare the most disaster struck country of ours to NZ..and you'll easily say you're lucky you don't have typhoons and earthquakes every month or so..

Lots of people in first world countries have first world problems. But I'm pretty sure we get earthquakes every month!
