Seattle is known for its burgeoning population of chuppies (child urban professionals) who leave home at an early age (usually 6 or 7) to pursue a life of urban nirvana. Some children thrive in the chuppie culture, like the child seen in the first picture (he bought that leather jacket with his own earnings), but others, like the child in the second picture, still lack basic tools, like how to operate a newspaper stand. It can be disheartening at times.

Yes, except there's a high bluff right behind those, so the density is only skin deep.

Six-story buildings are the most common form of infill in Seattle, because that's how many of our business districts and inner areas are zoned. More and more districts are getting a critical mass of these buildings, meaning enough units to support good walkable retail and a healthy urban-style environment. Outside of California and Miami, no other "newer" US city has areas of decent urban density to the extent we do.
