The inflation in the same period is 37%. So it seems that the faire raises are pretty close to the inflation, except or very short distances.

SNCB CEO Jo Cornu made some remarks about mobile connectivity on board SNCB trains a while ago. SNCB is investigating whether to install WiFi or GSM/4G repeaters on board their trains.

Are you implying non-Dutch people can't use wifi on trains here now?

I think he means that, if the decision of SNCB will be to install 3G/4G repeaters instead of WiFi, the service will not be accessible by users from abroad; while WiFi on NS trains is open to anyone*.

In fact I see no point in installing such repeaters, today.

*including people not actually travelling: when I didn't have a Dutch number I often hooked stopped ICs for a quick surf

They should include charging stations in their project. I think that 220 V is not necessary in Belgium or Netherlands as the network is too small (a ride longer than one and half hour is unusual) but USB charging sockets could be quite useful.

Will the flirt trains have anything like this, either 220 V or USB ports?

That is true only for the slowest service The Thalys will still take almost half of that time.

I don't know it this has already been posted, but the new services map from Trainreiziger.nl is available:
http://spoorkaart2015.nl/downloads/s...rt_2015_A4.pdf

To me this document has been extremely useful to understand the usage of the Dutch network.
The style was slightly evolved from last year, although I don't agree 100% with some simplifications introduced in the map (e.g.: the Amsterdam - Berlin IC drawn as a part of the Enkhuizen - Deventer service).

Talking about new services, it's interesting to note how there is an ongoing effort to introduce "S-Bahn" services around the main centers of the Randstad, and more will come with the final setup of Utrecht Centraal (and probably with the completion of OV-SAAL).

I have the perception that there is a potential for a metro-like network of frequent suburban lines (doubling the frequency to 8 tph) through centers, but I must admit I don't have data to support this. This "metro" evolution would require some relatively compact upgrades to the infrastracture (I'm making some plans but I'm quite sure most of them were already part of past or frozen visions).

What I'm sure of is that it's about time to present this network to the public in a specific and consistent style; when I make comparisons with Germany I'm pretty surprised by the lack of communication (even more suprising since some services are way more advanced).

Last time I looked at a spoorkaart it looked a bit like this...

But then of course we didn't have internet, and we had to make do with this:

No, it isn't. All communication is encrypted (ProRail assumes the Key Manager role) and there is plenty of redundancy in the network.

Wasn't station Geerdijk slated for closure due to low ridership?

I don't see any reason for criticism about services to Belgium, there will be 12 Thalys and 16 Intercity trains daily... so plenty of options.

Don't you rather want to look at a nice picture of a Dutch train?
