That is what Sloterdijk is for. And the opening of the noordzuidlijn changes things.

Both, the Metro-Ring line also stops at this station. Next to the station is a terminus for tram 12 and a busstation.

Straight after Bijlmer/Arena? Perhaps you mean Duivendrecht station.

AFAIK, there's no direct relation between the opening of the Noord/Zuidlijn (new metro line) and the service patterns NS is going to offer from 2019 onwards from Purmerend to Amsterdam.

Dutch railways order two Intercity-trains for Amsterdam – Brussels

Treinreiziger.nl reports: The Dutch railways have decided order two multi-system ICNG trainsets for the so-called ‘Benelux’ services connecting Amsterdam (NL) with Brussels (BE). The order is part of the framecontract NS has with manufacturer Alstom. It was announced today by Minister Dijsselbloem in a letter to the Dutch parliament.

In 2025, the rolling stock that is currently in use between Amsterdam and Brussels (Railcolor: ICRm coaches) will be due for replacement. It has not been decided yet who will operate the international services after 2025, but under the current operational contract NS is obliged to ensure continuity at the end of the concession. This clause has been added to the contract because in the past NS postponed investments in new trains until it was sure it got the operational contract.

I don't think we should look at this as an actual order for new trains for the Beneluxtrein, but instead see it as an insurance policy. By ordering these trains now, and having them fully tested and approved, the type approval is secured. This allows NS to allow more ICNG-B's to be ordered whenever they see fit, without having to worry about the technical requirements (TSIs) changing in the meantime.

A very intelligent move and, for a change, a welcome anticipation.

In other words, they want to use regulations to guarantee the right to order trains that might become obsolete?

In other other words, they're just guaranteeing to spare money and time in a near-but-not-so-near future.

Or they want to save money and hassle. Tender procedures are expensive, and small fleets are difficult to maintain.

By doing this now, they can guarantee that they can order a batch of Belgium suitable trains whenever they see fit without risking another Fyra fiasco.

While the nationalists will probably be outraged, I'm mostly surprised it took so long. We Dutch are also always complaining abroad when they don't have it. Will the next step be additional English announcements in the trains and on stations?

Oh god please don't. NS can't do proper English. Have you ever read their rules and guidelines signs on the trains? What a toe-curling cringe fest. Like it was written by a 12 year old for a school assignment.

I've always wanted NL to become officially bilingual, every step in that direction is more than welcome (suck it, Willie ).

Technically we have 4 official languages already, but I assume you're talking about a greater role for English? We have a long way to go on that front.

This is highly needed at Schiphol Airport. The information signs weren't actually too word heavy in the first place but foreigners often didn't even bother reading them. Hopefully this will help.

And obsessed anglophiles can **** off. Seriously.

That's part of my campaign for the official language of the Union. English for all and everywhere + local regional language(s) of free choice, traditions safeguarded and finally the real freedom of movement.

As of today NL is surely the best place to start, given how widespread English is.

But this is part of a wider political view in which, IMHO, we could all be very happy without the old and useless national states, and manage everything with a layer of regional entities inside a federal EU.
Today I see national states just as greedy middlemen, they just create political contrast and limits to innovation. I mean, kings and princesses in 21st century, are we living in a fairytale?
Too bad most of "regional independency" groups just advocate for and idea of... smaller national states... basically my own personal kingdom

Well, if there's will, there's a way. Earlier this year RET started using bilingual announcements as well, and as you can guess it was beyond terrible. But then they hired a British-born voice actress and this is the result.
