The Cube|Birmingham|United Kingdom

This certainly deserves its own thread. This the stunning mixed used development in the city of Birmingham. It will most likely be the most iconic building in Birmingham when complete. So I will stop talking now and post pics.

Heres two renders showing us what it will look like

And heres a construction pic which was taken the other day to get the ball rolling.

The color for this one is just not right. Otherwise, I'm not sure if I like it or hate it.

You guys havent got a clue. This is an innovative and exciting design. Your probably fans of bland corporate architecture like plain glass office buildings with no character.

Iconic architecture is far more likely to split opinion though. I expect this will get a lot of stick as well as a lot of praise. I myself like it, but i dont love it.

how can you say this is good? I'm not a fan of bland glass boxes those are just as bad. I think such a massive building should be elegant and well organized with aesthetic touches and timeless designs not some stupid fad design.

Yeah, this just looks messy and weird. Seems like someone is playing a game of Tetris around the outside...

Maybe it'll look better when complete, but the renders are not encouraging.

Hmm, well I think once its built it will be a timeless classic. Theres nothing else like it around, it could have been "elegant" with curves etc but how many supposedly iconic buildings try that and fail to become recognised because its such a common intention nowadays? Its hard to be consistently original with the current craze for iconic architecture, but I think this does it. People either love it or hate it cos its totally different, but architecture is art and great art divides opinion.

And dont be so ******* rude. By all means say if you dont like it, thats your opinion and your entitled to it. But dont patronise by suggesting it is a joke. And saying it makes you want to puke is vile and insulting to the people who are proud and excited about this project.

I am simply reacting to the comments made towards those against it.
You are the one who seems to be rude. I don't think this will become a timeless classic and we are all entitled to our opinion. I'm sorry if you designed this or what not but don't take it to heart if I find this design totally disgusting on so many levels.

The reason I gave for you being rude was because you suggested it was a joke project (which is highly condescending) and because you said it made you want to puke, which is a tad extreme (has a building ever really made you puke?). But you guys across the pond do tend to be a bit more... flamboyant with your critisisms.

I had no problem with you reacting to the comments made towards those against it. I personally think its great and I reckon you might be pleasently surprised once its completed.

I meant that once you see photos of it completed, I think you'll be surprised as to how well it has turned out! Sometimes renders dont do buildings justice. Swiss RE and Selfridges for example.
