No, there are no deserts like these in Tajikistan. Tajikistan is extremely mountainous.

Resume (and someone, please, correct me!!)

E-09 and E-9 are the same.
E-009 not!

Main network

Odd numbers
North-South

Even numbers
West-East

Main roads: E-X5 and E-X0

(in my city it crosses the E-90 that goes from Lisbon to border with Iraq)

Other main network roads will be E-XY with Y odd or even depending if north-south or west-east.
If X=0 it is usual to write E-Y only (Pau-Zaragoza, E-7 instead of E-07)

B European network: E-XYZ, three digits.

E-101 is Moscow-Kiev.
Eastern roads from E-101 are numbered as E-0XX

There are too many curiosities.

For instance... E-01 goes from Northern Ireland to Southern Spain... crossing all the Atlantic Ocean!!!!!!!!!!

It's E004 from Kyzylorda to Uchkudur between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. UNECE introduced this route in 1999, but it simply does not exist, not even as an unpaved road or tracks, like some other E-routes in the region. It's just uninhabited desert.

I realize that now (I thought I understood the E-route system...) but that's just silly.

Let me post a new one

Hint 1: It is located in a World corner with a Latin language spoken
(map: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Ro...-World-Map.png)

Hint 2: Not easy to see in the photo but it could be the world wide infrastructure that saves more time in transport.

Thank you for that second hint
I immediately knew it was the Panama Canal
https://maps.google.nl/maps?q=Panama...ama+Canal&z=15

Someone else can post a new one.

Too easy. It is the motorway over the Panama canal... and obviously the infrastructure to save time was not the motorway... but the canal (the water under the bridge is not a river but the famous canal).
And... Panama has a Latin language
