I guess they will rent them. If they plan to operate international railway lines too, it can even be profitable. But you're right, paying the rent and maintenance costs and railway-usage fee gonna be pretty high for a relatively small company. Nevertheless, the bus branch won't go bankrupt for a while, it has a great future providing lower prices than lowcost airlines.

In one documentary on Czech TV I've seen something about little private operators on local railways. Unfotunately I don't remeber their names.

They're only talking. CD and Department of Traffic know that if they let any financially strong company go into the market, CD would go bankrupt. And they are forced to avoid this by unions.

They actually showed trains operated by those private companies and I have to say those comapnies were small ussually led by some railway enthusiast so no real competition for ČD. They operated on railways in border regions which were abandoned by ČD due to low profits.

You're right:

http://www.dnoviny.cz/zeleznicni-dop...i--regionovu-/

This is just a local exception.

As far as I know there is no long-distance private railway operator as well as there's no track where 2 operators compete each other.

Well, there has almost been one last year - http://www.rtexpres.cz/ - operating between Prague and Ostrava (in competition with CD Pendolino), but some strange circumstances from the ministry of transport and CD apparently caused the company to retreat from it's plans. Hopefully Student Agency will be more successful.

Here is link to thread which I started some time ago about Ostrava airport.
It is part of transportation so we should write about in this thread.
How can I close the old one?
By the way any new connections coming to Ostrava?
Especially from UK?

On Czech railway forum I've seen City Elephant train sets.
Do I have a chance to get them from Cesky Tesin to Ostrava?
From railway timetable I see there are two connections.
Via Havirov and via Bohumin. Do you know on which connection I'm more likely to get City Elephant?
I really want to check these trains

I have read in some railway magazine here in London that Czech Railway finished new railway station in Ostrava, Ostrava Stodolna, together with modernization of some railway line.
I didn't see any news on Skyscraper City.

There are two very unique railway stations. First, a distance between them is about 400 metres what means it is almost like two tram stops . Second, their names are Ostrava-střed (center) and Ostrava-centrum (center) . I like densy public transport ...

Ostrava is doing a very good job in their railway infrastructure. I like the new station' s simple and elegant design.

It's a rail station, Ostrava does not have a subway system, it has trams and trolleys.

It is the 3rd biggest city in Czech Republic with about 310000 inhabitants

Honza, Y236k:
