It's at the border between Normandy and Brittany. The Couesnon River which you can see on Steph35's pic marks the border between Brittany and Normandy. In ancient days the Couesnon flowed east of the Mont-Saint-Michel (i.e. to the left of Mont-Saint-Michel on Steph35's pic), so the Mont-Saint-Michel was in Brittany, but at an unknown date the river changed its course and it now flows west of the Mont-Saint-Michel, so the Mont-Saint-Michel is now in Normandy.
In France there's a saying which goes like this: "Le Couesnon dans sa fureur mit le Mont en Normandie" (i.e. " The Couesnon River, in its furor, put the Mount in Normandy"). I know Breton people are still grudging about this. It's one of the many reasons why Normand and Breton people are always quarelling and competing with each other. Lol. |

Here is our photo du jour. Typical Burgundian roofs in the medieval town of Beaune, in the heart of the Burgundy wine region.

Close to Paradise : sunset over Nouméa, the capital of New Caledonia.
In my opinion, Nouméa is the most scenic and most pleasant French city, above even the French Riviera. The only downside is it's very far from everything. ![]()

Congrats to everybody who participates to these "country - one photo a day" threads. The photos are stuning, and with this concept you have the time to really appreciate and memorize them.
Here is Saignon, a small village in Provence, more exactly in the Vaucluse departement. Saignon is located in Luberon, a regional natural park. Its name is derived from Signum (sign in latin), because of the big rock you can see on the pic. But I suppose the thing you will notice first is the Lavande fields, one of the iconic landscapes and symbols of Provence. ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() PS: Sorry the image is bigger on my computer, but this is the largest size Flickr allows me. Specially dedicated to Dinivan: the southernmost residents of France, enjoying the view in the unspoilt Kerguelen.

The southermost inhabitants of France are penguins in Adélie Land (Antarctica). Remember the March of the Penguins.

Adélie Land is not really part of France. Sovereignty over Antarctica is suspended since the 1959 Antarctic Treaty.

I remember stopping with my French host family at Saignon to try to find a public water fountain to fill up our water bottles. It was a very, very nice little village.

Not as cold as Kerguelen, but quite as breathtaking and wild, the rocky coastline of Brittany exudes Nature's strength and Celtic culture.
