Singapore to host the 2013 SEA Games
Source: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/

Quote:
The 27th Southeast Asian Games is scheduled to be held in Singapore in 2013. The Games will be held at the new Singapore Sports Hub in Kallang, which replaces the old National Stadium & to be completed in 2012. This will be the fourth time in history & the first time in 20 years the country has held the games.
This was announced by the SEA Games Federation Council.

The biennial event is the region's premier sporting event involving 11 Southeast Asian countries.

At the 2005 SEA Games in Manila, Singapore finished with the best medal haul for an away game.

The Republic returned with 129 medals comprising 42 gold, 32 silver and 55 bronze medals.

But the best ever medal tally for Singapore was in 1993, when it last hosted the Games and amassed 164 medals overall, 50 of them gold.

Besides the '93 Games, Singapore has also played host to two other SEA Games, in 1973 and 1983.

The 2013 Games, to be staged at the new Sports Hub in Kallang, is expected to attract 8,000 overseas delegates, athletes and media representatives to Singapore. - CNA/ir

Today the IRB announced Japan as the host of the 2019 Rugby World Cup. Their bid proposed playing five games at the Singapore Sports Hub, although this proposal needs to be ratified by the IRB.

Two things:

!. If Japan hosts a Rugby World Cup, then they cannot hold any games outside of the country. It would make Japan look like France when they hosted the 2007 Rugby WC.

2. The Singapore Sports Hub is drastically falling behind schedule (it is perhaps close to being cancelled) because of the economic crisis and may not be finished before the 2013 Southeast Asian Games.

I bet Singapore or Hong Kong end up hosting matches.

the Singapore gold people have stolen my idea completely
Singapore stole my floating stadium idea as well
I'll just have to design an underwater stadium

Title should be SINGAPORE - National Stadium (55,000) or something.

I like the project, nice stadium.

The SportsHub never got off the ground. Never even demolished the original national stadium first. With the capacity of the main stadium were higher than 55,000 though.

Singapore's national stadium mostly had bench seating and there were few regular seats.

Well, the red part is actually the red part of our flag. I think that they are trying to show its uses during our Independence Day celebration.
