Boston | January 2008 | Part 1

With New Haven and Hartford behind, we are finally entering Boston, one of the most famous and historical cities of the United States.

Thanks to BeestonLad, I knew about the observation deck on the 50th floor of the Prudential tower and decided that it's going to be a good start for our exploration of the city. I have already studied its geography prior to the trip, so I knew the approximate locations of everything anyway, but the view is really surprising, because it's so open and the perspective endless.

The first thing we see is a construction of some new residentials on the outskirts

And immediately the easily recognizable Prudential Centre

The so called Midtown, including Back Bay area, where the nice French style rowhouses are, as well as several tourist destinations and the two main skyscrapers - the Prudential Tower (228 meters, second tallest) and the Hancock skyscraper (tallest in the city at 241 meters)

Under the Prudential Tower there is an entire mall with glass roofs that connects it to several adjacent buildings.

You can even buy a Russian matryoshka there

Prudential Tower itself.

111 Huntington Avenue at 169 meters, one of the newest skyscrapers in the city, build in 2002

The elevator is swift and quiet, few seconds later voila, we're on the 50th floor

Very nice urban setting

Most taxis are white in the city

Financial centre on the right, that's approximately where the famous Boston Tea Rave occurred.

Trinity Church on Copley square. It dates back to second half of the 19th century, but was built in place of a burned down Church from the 1700's.

The 111 Huntington which we had already seen from below

Cathedral that resembles Hagia Sophia a bit. That's where I "lived" across the street.

Funny thing is that I didn't notice these commieblocks until I opened up these pictures

Looking back, towards the outskirts of the city

Some stadium under construction or expansion

To our left (assuming that downtown is center)

Very nice residential district, across the river is Cambridge (name of a city)

You can go to that skybridge without going outside straight from the Prudential Tower

Wow, impressive to see how dense the city is.
