Eh, it's quite understated and it least is not all glass. I was not that won over by the tower plan, a few kerplunk sticks glued to the side of cereal box does not an icon make.

Besides Canary wharf had mutiple plans approved for 25 Churchill, before they settled on a 25 storey tower. The truth is the estate has plenty of sites for big towers. I think a mid rise that finally close the gap in the street wall would look good. Also a smallish office building could prove attractive to a single tenant.

What change? The rendering posted shows the first version of 1 Park Place, as proposed around 10 years ago...

I think it just renewing existing plans, with some tweaks to comply with latest regulations.

Canary Wharf will submit a new planning application for a 650,000 sqft building, although they have pp for 950,000 sqft

So a midrise around two thirds the height, going by the reduction in space.

Two-thirds the height? That would still be ~130m, about the same height as 25 Churchill Place on the other side of the estate. In some ways, I'd welcome that as it would allow the main towers of Canary Wharf to still be visible from the west while adding to the density/skyline, but it is a shame that we won't be getting a new 200m skyscraper for Canary Wharf (at least until HQW/RS/NQ get off the ground).

to be fair, this tower - however nice the cladding - did ruin the main view of 1 Canada Square from upriver.

While the tower height was nice, I thought the design was pretty bad if I'm honest. I like 25 Churchill Place, certainly wouldn't be against a similar size / design here.

May have something to do with this?

I don't think so. 25 Churchill Place is 550000 sq ft, and 130 meters. If the new proposal is 650000 sq ft we should be seeing something of similar height. Thus that low rise can not be what is being submitted.

Sorry, I'm confused. What is the change? I can't see any noticeable difference. What has actually happened to this project?

I'd be content if the whole thing fell through, to be honest. It's a wonderful building, but in a truly awkward position.

This is the current state of the site. There are still some workers clearing away rubble, and strangely a couple of trees waiting to be planted..

Ignore 'Thatbirdsgotnofeet'; it is a spambot most likely, there is a possible change mentioned at the top of the page but there is still a high level of confusion on whats going on here. We'll get to know eventually

Rent profits up as Wharf tops 100,000 workers

-- Link to The Wharf article --

Rental income for Canary Wharf Group has gone up year on year thanks mainly to a lease extension by Bank of New York Melon in One Canada Square. The company announced in its six-month results on Friday that income in this area had increased from £124.6million in the first half of last year to £130.3m this year.

Meanwhile, the company said construction of developments such as 25 Churchill Place, the Crossrail station and the Jubilee Place mall extension are running to plan. The report said there was nine of the 29 units at the Jubilee mall extension and 40 per cent of the Crossrail units had found tenants. Shops at Jubilee Place are expected to open in November next year. Offices at 25 Churchill Place, which is to be the base of the European Medicines Agency, will be completed in the middle of 2014.

Canary Wharf Group also revealed it was aiming to submit a new proposal for One Park Place and was looking at building residential property on sites at Heron Quay West and Newfoundland.

Meanwhile, announced the working population of Canary Wharf had topped 100,000 this summer for the first time.
