I-94 Poynette, Wisconsin, USA

A very nice rest area along I-94 near Poynette, Wisconsin (just north of Madison).

Lots of truck parking, nicely landscaped, a huge building, and it isn't even a welcome center. According to Google Earth historical imagery, it was rebuild around 2009-2010.

curious how they built two of them but there is an overpass there, instead of making one and an interchange..,

Is that a lot for the USA?

Just wondering because the closest rest stops near me (in South Germany) are currently all being or planned to be rebuilt for higher truck capacities. Often with cheap temporary expansions to similar capacity to the above, and long-term plans in the region of 200-300 per location, at least for 3+3 arteries. And that's with a station at least every 20 miles and additional parking lots inbetween every 5 miles or so.

Most truck parking in the U.S.A. is on dedicated truck stops. From what I've seen general rest areas directly along freeways aren't as big, especially if they aren't welcome centers. Rest areas on toll roads tend to be larger.

I was in Spain last week, and there are practically no rest areas along autovías. You need to go to a truck stop like facility near an exit, but they hardly ever have decent parking / leisure areas (picnic tables, playground, etc.)

French rest areas are often huge, especially those with services. I noticed how busy they get around lunch time. This is not common in the Netherlands because few people drive more than 2 hours on a motorway (you'll drive halfway through the country or more).

Yesterday I passed through this small gas station located in a mountain road in La Rioja, Spain.

There is very little traffic through here, but it's the only gas station in almost 90 km of winding mountain road. It serves a bunch of mountain villages which otherwise would be quite far away from any gas station - the next ones are 50 km far if you're going south, 33 km if you're going north.

It's kept by the owners of this old "venta" (inn-restaurant).

My fav Gas Stations in the US are WAWAs They tend to be the cleanest and has the best food. Generaly full service and found in NJ area.

As for rest stops CALIFORNIA is my favs!!

It feels historical at most of the rest stops

Especially on the way to Vegas

Rest area on the A60 between Bitburg ans Prüm
As you can see, very heavy traffic. I think you could lay down and sleep on the road and nothing would happen. The A60 is a joke

Rest areas and Service stations

Restarea Isaberg along road 26, Gislaved, Sweden

Restarea Vista Kulle along road E4 Huskvarna, Sweden

Truckstop, Soltauer Heide

Petrol station,Soltauer Heide

Restarea Soltauer Heide, Germany

Service station, Oldenburg in Holstein. The small shack to the left is the shop where you pay. In Germany it seems like almost every little fill up petrol station has a shop where you can pay for your fuel, buy motoroil and even liquor. In Sweden this type of service station would be unmanned with automatic petrol pumps and no shop.

Unmanned fuel stations with just a payment terminal seems to be very uncommon in Germany. There is almost always a shop where you have to pay.

In Scandinavia you often pay at the pump even if there is a shop.

The Rede Graal realy looks great
Very nice location, a lake, very nice buildings, a museum, evrything looks amazing. It´s not like a area where you can rest on the way to your holiday it looks more like a location where you can spend your holiday
