I like Wawa. I live in Philadelphia, and they're based in this area. They're primarily food stores (their original business was dairy products), and in the city you can find Wawas that don't sell gas.

One tiny correction: The reason they're full service in New Jersey is that New Jersey bans self-service, so all gas stations there are full service. Elsewhere, they're self-service like everyone else.

Repsol, Spain

A new Repsol fuel station along A-23 near Muel, Spain.

Great prices. Euro 95 = € 1.189 / $ 5.36 per gallon (Netherlands: € 1.65 / $ 7.45)

Most major fuel stations in Spain are quite clean, they all provide squeegees and have an attendant to fill up. I'm not sure if you are supposed to tip them, tipping is uncommon in the Netherlands, but I never got a weird look for not tipping. As traffic is usually low, it is often the same guy who fills up your car and being the cashier at the same time.

Almost in the desert.

You're not.

Tipping is also very uncommon in Spain. Exceptions are delivery food guys and, sometimes, restaurants (non fast-food/chain). Tips are usually about 5% or even less. The last time, I tipped the delivery guy €1 for a €28 order. Probably I'd tipped him €2 if it had been raining. I don't like the concept of tipping. Or maybe it's just that I am tight-fisted

Makpetrol gas station in the city of Shtip, Macedonia (1957). Makpetrol is the biggest company that owns gas stations in Macedonia, currently they have 125 stations across the country.

Another one from Shtip

From the city of Probishtip

From Bitola

Also an older gas station, most likely from the 1980's

Today the look of their gas stations is unified, they all look like this:

This is a CPN gas station in Modlin in Poland in 1970s:

The text on the roof of the building means: Fuels - Oils - Lubricants.

78 octane gasoline was in sale in those times.

Above it, there is the CPN logo, one of the most recognizable logos in Poland until some time ago.

A station in Katowice in 1990s:

A TV news report from November 1989 from gas stations:

There were problems with fuel supply because of the rapidly growing amount of cars, which resulted with long queues at the gas stations, reaching even 3 hours of waiting.

They are also showing the still existing Tankstelle Typ Fürstenwalde at the A4 motorway near Wrocław.

All those stations belonged to the CPN. Which stands for Centrala Produktów Naftowych - it can be translated as something like Kerosene Products Base or Paraffin Products Centre.

The company still exists and is very active on the Polish market, possessing probably not most, but the biggest number of gas stations in Poland:
