#Park Inn Sandton - Hotel - 20F - Sandton

Rezidor Announces 2nd Hotel for Sandton, Johannesburg

STOCKHOLM, Sweden--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Regulatory News:

The Rezidor Hotel Group (STO:REZT) announces its second hotel for Sandton, Johannesburg complementing the Radisson Hotel Sandton which is due to open in late 2008: The Park Inn Sandton featuring 192 rooms will welcome its first guests in April 2010.

“South Africa is an upcoming destination for business and leisure travellers”, comments Kurt Ritter, President & CEO of The Rezidor Hotel Group. “The government has prioritised tourism as a key economic sector, and international arrivals increase continuously – we are expecting new heights in 2010 when the country hosts the FIFA World Cup.”

The Park Inn Sandton will be situated directly across the road from the Gautrain Sandton Station, and will have the benefit of being the closest hotel to the underground station which will link commuters on South Africa’s first underground railway system directly to the OR Tambo International Airport, Rosebank and Pretoria CBD’s. The JSE (Johannesburg Stock Exchange), multinationals and Convention Centre are located within 1 kilometer, and the property is only a few hundred meters from some of the best shopping Meccas in the world, Sandton City and Nelson Mandela Square.

Park Inn is Rezidor’s fastest growing brand – it was launched in early 2003 and includes today more than 100 hotels in operation and under development in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Park Inn represents a young, dynamic and colourful mid market brand – promising “the best sleep in town” within its category and mastering the essentials: Park Inn hotels are easy to use, safe, spotlessly clean, energetic and fun, with a warm and casual Yes I Can! service approach.

With the existing Radisson and Park Inn hotels in Cape Town, as well as the recently signed Radisson hotels in Port Elizabeth and Sandton, this marks another milestone of the development and commitment of The Rezidor Hotel Group in South Africa.

Anyone else slightly suspicious that it is going to end up looking like just another shity looking Park Inn. The low budget hotel on that prime piece of land is a waste if you ask me.

14F, I think it will make a difference.

Where is it located

Does anyone know the location of this building. My current surmise is that it is located on the corner of Rivonia and West diagonally opposite to the Gautrain Sandton station - can anyone confirm? If I recall there is a large excavation on that site.

That is the radisson, another hotel in rivonia road - the old sandown isle site. The Park Inn is not the same one - at least now we know what to expect with the radisson. The Radisson is rising above the aston showroom, corner of rivonia and maude, accross from village walk.

I don't think this is the Radisson above the BMW showroom (aka Sandown Isle). We have renders for that building and this looks very different. The only explanation could be that this was an old design for the current Radisson or is a diff project altogether.

Were did you get this picture Pule ?

THE Belgium-based Rezidor Hotel Group said yesterday that building work on a second hotel in Sandton, the Park Inn Sandton, had begun this month.

The 192-room, R140m hotel, which would open for guests in April 2010, would be the closest hotel to the Sandton Gautrain station.

Andrew McLachlan, Rezidor business development director for Africa, said its other Sandton hotel, the Radisson Hotel Sandton, would open in November.

The 290-bedroom hotel, on the corner of Rivonia Road and Linden and Daisy streets a few hundred metres from the JSE, is valued at about R430m. McLachlan said the Park Inn Sandton would be on the corner of Rivonia Road and West Street, directly across the road from the train station. The rationale behind the two hotels was that the group decided to focus on Africa after its success in Europe, the Middle East and Russia.

“Strategically, SA holds lots of opportunity for us — not too many international brands are present. There are strong local brands so we think there is still a chance to grow in this country.

“We hope to have a fair slice of the cake and at the same time increase its size,” said McLachlan.

Rezidor is building a Radisson Hotel in Port Elizabeth, to open at the end of this year.

“It is a 173-bedroom hotel in Summerstrand and will be Port Elizabeth’s first international hotel,” said McLachlan. “Within SA we are looking at growing the Radisson and Park Inn brands in business and resort locations.”

He said the group was looking at establishing a presence in Durban, East London, Bloemfontein and in other parts of Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town.

The group has big expansion plans. It aims to have 50 hotels in Africa by 2015, and has 15 now.

I got it from the link attached by SA Boy, Jakes I don't think that Raddison and I agree with Inertia the Raddison you talk about is different from this one.

Can we agree on the number of floors so that Dysan can change the thread for us. I say its 21 floors, Park Inn-Hotel-21 floors-Sandton, Johannesburg.
