--- Tasmania - Isle of Holiday ---

Summer in Australia translates to endless days on the beach, various of sport specatacles (Tennis on the Australian Open, Cricket etc), and explore the countrysides or just simply enjoy the warm (sometimes hot) wheather with friends and over barbeques

This time we decided to visit Tasmania - a holiday island just south of Australian mainland for a week. It is only a mere 1 hr flight from Melbourne and I was really pleasently suprised by the varied attractions especially with th eisland's miles of white sandy beaches and the freshest seafood on offer.

Tasmania I knew before was mainly an island full of food produce - its known for its famous salmon, oyster and plenty of fruits.
But in fact its more than that! - Its a fascinating holiday destination with its historical towns and pristine surroundings

We had delicious & continuing feasts on the Tasmanian freshest seafood - purchased fresh from prevoius night caught by the fishermen. We tried a huge fat lobster for mere $44 fresh from the market and $1 each oyster. The fine dining scenes were vibrant, abundant and they were eager to please you ! ... It was just simply divine a week experiences with the crisp and fresh Tasmanian white wines just simply to top it off the whole packages.

In the last few years Tasmania profile caught international attentions from its own born and bred gal - Mary Donaldson married to nice bloke whose mother owned a big house called The Royal Palace in Copenhagen. Yes it was Mary and Frederick from Denmark royal family.Since then - there were lot of articles and tourism related connections from both countries.

We flew to Hobart and then rented a car touring the south east of the Island (Port Arthur) then drove to Frecynet bays and went on to Launceston in the north.

Tasmania is simply a beautiful Island and its wonderful hinterland and unforgetable cuisines will stay in your memories forever!

To start with - i give you the link from its official tourism board to familiarise with this island holiday !

About Tasmania

Tasmania is Australia's only island state. It is a heart-shaped island of lush green valleys, uncrowded towns and villages and still undeveloped coastlines.

It is one of the world's most mountainous islands and while our peaks do not tower to great heights, they are unique in their serrated profile. Our geology reflects our connection millions of years ago to Antarctica, and we are one of the few places in the world where ancient dolorite rocks dominates the landscape.

Our climate is mild and our rainfall regular. The Roaring Forty winds that travel across our island bring with them the cleanest air in the world. But in less than 300 kilometres the weather patterns change dramatically. On the west coast the average rainfall is around three metres a year, while on the east coast it's less than 20 centimetres.

So we invite you to come to the edge of the world and explore our island and meet our residents. It will be an experience you will always remember.

I had to call my friend to come see the Tasmanian Devils and the Wallabee!! Such a beautiful and varied country you live in... thanks for posting these pics!! Why not request they be moved to the new Urban Showcase for original pics!

A few years back some French winemakers from Champagne were snapping up land in Tasmania, as the soil/climate, etc... seems ideal for sparkling wine.. wonder how that project is coming along?

Lovely photos but I must ask:

Are some of those photographs showing the same area where that awful shooting took place?

Paradise! Lately, I have become a bit obsessed with Tasmania and these pics confirm every fantasy I have ever had of the place. I think Tasmania would definitely be my first port of call in the entire Oz/NZ region. Thanks for the tour!!

So have they started producing Champagne-like sparkling wine?
I do love a good full bodied. Australian Shiraz, and Yalumba makes a
very good Viognier wine.
