I'll say I actually liked it better when only one of the endzones was double-decked before the latest expansion.

Yep. Part of the reason why Bryant Drive couldn't be moved to make more room for a plaza with the last expansion. One of the old jokes is that is where opposing teams go after Bama gets through with them.

Thankfully most fans tailgate and enter the stadium from campus which is north and east of the stadium. The cemetery in that picture is directly between the stadium and an apartment complex I lived in one year as a student. Leaving your apartment and trying to find a parking space on a gameday was a disaster but it was awesome being able to walk less than 300 yards to the stadium. I snuck in the stadium with some friends one rainy night when I was in college back in 1996. We squeezed through the gate and played an impromptu pick up football game on the field without getting caught. That was just before the second sideline deck was put on to increase seating to just under 84,000. The stadium only seated a little over 70,000 when we got on the field.
P.S. If you head south from the stadium by the cemetery it is a little over a mile to where the large tornado plowed through on its way through the town back in late April 2011. |

Bryant-Denny Stadium is quite possibly the nicest of the SEC stadiums. From it's behemoth size and brick facades, but also the quality of the amenities in the stadium. It has over 120 suites, 3 stadium club areas (2 with a view of the field), offices, and meeting rooms, as well as some restaurants on the ground floor of the South End. |
