Looks like Microsoft is getting a bridge over 520 with stimulus money.

Why?!
![]() Don't you understand! We should be doing everything in our power to keep these huge companies here!! What would happen if Microsoft left the Seattle area? It wouldnt be good... We don't want a repeat of boeing. So lets try to help them out a bit. |

We did everything to help keep Boeing stay in Seattle area but they left Seattle for Chicago. I think any corporations should help pay for it. If I own a corporation, I would be more than happy to help fund any needed projects.

Which is why you probably won't ever own a major corporation...Microsoft already spends enough money on the connector due to our lack of public transportation infrastructure, lets not make them pay for roads too, thats what they (and everyone else) pays taxes for |

Please do not take it in wrong way, I think this bridge design is nice but the question is are we really need it? I only see it will benefit Microsoft and its neighbors. |

Crazy, I agree with guiness. Having a world class organization that significantly helps our economy like Microsoft does is a privilege, not a right, and we should work with them to make sure they want to stay here.

Kirkland annexation vote likely
11:05 PM PDT on Monday, April 6, 2009 By JIM FORMAN / KING 5 News KIRKLAND, Wash. - Kirkland’s City Council met Monday night to be briefed on how much it would cost to annex a large swath of unincorporated King County north of the city line. The Finn Hill, Kingsgate, and North Juanita neighborhoods and their 30,000 residents would be swallowed up by Kirkland, if voters ultimately approve the plan. King County has said it is struggling to provide urban style services to many communities. Enter cities like Kirkland, which will receive state money to help cover the costs of building new facilities, and hiring more firefighters and police officers. “The state recognizes that during some kind of transition period, some kind of help is needed. And for 10 years (the state) will share a portion of their sales tax to help close that gap,” said Kirkland City Manager, Dave Ramsay. All this is not without controversy. “I think it’s time,” said one resident of the affected area. “I think the biggest piece for me and my wife is the fact I don’t feel like (Sheriff’s Deputies) can get there fast enough being out of the city,” another resident agreed. Related Content Annexation Plan The council will pick up the issue again on Tuesday at a special session, slated for 6 p.m. at City Hall. It will be the chance for the public to speak out before the council votes on moving forward. If the annexation plan is approved, there are a series of governmental agreements which must be hashed out. After that, a vote by residents in the annexation areas could come as early as the November general election. |

Maybe it'll provide Bellevue with an example, and they'll annex communities like Eastgate south of I-90.

Before they switched to multiplex radios, I used to listen to the police channels on a scanner. One thing I picked up on is that if you are concerned about police protection, living in one of those county "islands" among the various incorporated areas is just plain nuts. You could die of old age by the time police got there.

The residents of that area actually voted 'yes' several years ago to be annexed, but at the same time they also voted 'no' to incur their share of Bellevue's bonded indebtedness (or something like that), so that nixed the whole thing from Bellevue's standpoint, and the Bellevue city council voted against annexing them.

I think it would be better for everyone if those areas were annexed. The Eastgate area, in my opinion, is the worst in terms of sidewalks and roads. Where there are sidewalks, you have to jump over weeds. Where there aren't, you need to hope that you don't get hit, especially along Newport Way. Also, the roads are in horrible condition compared to any other place in and around Bellevue.
