FREE Train Simulator-BVE

Let's discuss the BVE train simulator here. Anyone heard of BVE? BVE is a free train simulator which is written by a japanese. There are lots of world railway and subway routes avalaible which are downloadable by users.
Now, I am looking forward to the Jubilee Line Extension.

More about BVE at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BVE

I played it for a while. It's amazing how hard it is to stop a non-ATO train accurately.

I've already played BVE for some months, but it disappointed me...The problem might have been of the routes (london underground routes), but the system had lots of bugs...especially in stopping the trains!

But, as a freeware, it's quite good , in my opinion.

The only good sets of routes I've driven so far are those that have recreated the London Underground and the MTR. The good ones IMO are the following (all are BVE 4 compatible):

Northern Line (LU) - Easily the best one out there IMO. The announcements are much like the real ones used (other than the odd mistake), and the sounds are well blended together. The 1995 stock recreation is spot on. Services featured are Edgware to Morden via Bank, Edgware to Kennington via Charing Cross and Kennington to High Barnet via Charing Cross.

Bakerloo Line (LU) - The route is very realistic, as are the train noises of the 1972 stock and the timetabling. Would be better if more PA announcements had been used though. Services featured are Elephant and Castle to Queens Park, and Elephant and Castle to Harrow and Wealdstone.

Island Line (MTR) - The train sounds and PA are very realistic, as is the route. The train needs a bit of work though, as do the sounds, but it is very well done otherwise. Service featured is Sheung Wan to Chai Wan.

Tsuen Wan Line (MTR) - Once again, train and PA sounds are like the real ones, but they need to be blended in together better. Those with slower computers, do not use this route as it is a huge file. Service featured is Central to Tsuen Wan.

Tseung Kwan O Line (MTR) - As above. It is far smaller in size than the Tsuen Wan Line, and still quite good. Service featured is Po Lam to North Point.

Other note worthy lines includes: Victoria Line (LU), District Line (LU), Circle Line (LU), Piccadilly Line (LU), KCR West Rail (KCR) and the Kwun Tong Line (MTR).

Download BVE 4.2 here:
http://mackoy.cool.ne.jp/index4.html

You can download London Underground BVE routes here:
http://www.trainsimcentral.co.uk/

And Hong Kong MTR and KCR BVE routes here (only some are BVE 4 compatible, eg. Tung Chung and Airport Express Lines are not BVE 4 compatible):

When the program starts up, you'll get the file searcher. The file you want to click on is a csv file, which is usually labelled properly with the route. This is how you select the route you want to drive. Also make sure you have the correct train downloaded, and that the folder is in the correct place (it usually is by default when unzipped).

I had a hard time figuring out the controls, but I finally got the train to move after a while.

-Must wait until doors are closed (you can hear the sounds and some trains have LEDs or HUDs)
-Drive selector must be pushed to "Forward" (It's on N by default)
-Accelerator must be applied

The good thing about the routes listed above is that there is only one "lever" for both braking and accelerating, while suburban and freight routes often have two. I set W for forward setting, S for reversing, D for power and A for braking.

I've played it for some time; it's nice because it's free, but I was quite disapponted that many routes were not working. Graphic is often quite poor, but there are some very well done lines.

From the link I posted for MTR routes above, go to Routes for BVE 2.6, and download from there, as some are compatible for 4.2 as well.

There are two Kwun Tong Line downloads. The Yau Ma Tei to Choi Hung section is 4.2 compatible. The other one is not.

Not good graphics but its more about simulating procedures of driving a train. Its interesting to try but the lack of routes is off-putting and quite difficult for beginers

I had the same problem originally. You need to download the K-train from the same site. Once you've downloaded it to your BVE folder, you'll need to open to csv file called "Kwun Tong Line(Up)". On line 11, you'll find a command about Train.Folder. This is the folder that the game will search for the train in, and you'll need to substitute the name of the downloaded folder called "k_stockbvehkdennis" with the one there originally.

When you start the route up, it'll tell you that there is an error, but the route will work if you click ignore.
