It's a really nice amendment for the Financial District formally, no matter how much better various details could be.

Magnificent building. It evokes the past (1930s) of the best of NY high rises and even the more recent Four Seasons Hotel. Just wish London could come up with something so good (albeit alien to London!)

This might be the closest thing to a real art-deco skyscraper the world has seen since the great depression.

I'd take this kind of sentimental (some would say stagnant) architecture before the three door wardrobe from your avatar any day of the week.

This building is cladded in concrete, right? Painted to look like limestone?

It's precast from the second floor up. And not painted but mixed with an aggregate or mineral oxide for pigmentation. People may scoff at it, but up close it's a pretty impressive material:

People trash it by saying it's concrete, but not all concrete is equal.

Stern is doing the renovation of 1 Wall Street, and using a similar precast mix and when they showed the comparison between it and the limestone it was hard to tell which was which.
