Even I can't describe my feelings about this 'thing' (shall I say atrocity? oh, no I am not going that low), better that you just did.

Future towers of this sort surely need to be more refined in details, proportions and materials. May I remind you of the Elysian Tower in Chicago or even earlier postmodern attempts...

But we've seen the evolution of new classical towers in recent years, they've come quite a long way, to amazing and often original designs like The Fitzroy, 340 Flatbush/9 DeKalb, Steinway Tower, etc. New generations of architects, professionally educated in classical architecture styles, finally (re)learned what it takes to create inspiring designs from classical principles. People like Robert Stern couldn't really enjoy a comprehensive education of this sort, as their academic time fell into the dark abyss of the Athens Charter, brutal core modernism and concrete fetishism.

This is not such a bad building, but it tries to be something that it isnīt. Either Stern is overreated in neo art deco architecture, or he had a too small budget to create something that can keep up with the goold old art deco era.

It looks great at night! A close-up nightshot of the crown would be very welcome.

Looks amazing, fits perfectly in NYC, to all the people saying this was going to be just a cheap knock off

It's certainly not perfect, but since the 1960's we've had nothing but bland monoliths. After 40 years of uninspiring "office-factories" it's refreshing to see something different, something at least trying to capture the classic essence of New York. Perfection is always best, but I'll take what I can get.

Some were afraid Woolworth would be dominated by this tower, instead it completed a nice skyscraper cluster:
