How they could not hire Robert A.M. Stern for 220 CPS would be beyond me.

Silverstein also will operate a new hotel and private residences with Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts at 99 Church Street, a project originally scheduled for completion in 2011. Mr. Burger said it is now expected to open by mid-2016.

Ah well, wouldn't have expected it to open much sooner than that, based on where it stands now.

He said 2016 is the stated opening date, which means construction would have to be beginning either this year or next year. I still don't believe it.

Don't believe that it would even start in 2014 ?

Silverstein has strongly hinted that construction would begin this year.

I still find it very surprising that this project remains stalled when there are so many other luxury projects springing up. Perhaps after tower 4 is done, Silverstein will turn his attention to this (and hopefully tower 3 too).

I'm wondering if Larry is waiting to sign the enabling lease for 3WTC and then re-start both projects simultaneously. A splashy move like that could drive interest in 2WTC.

That's what I was wondering too. The New York residential (and hotel) market is so hot right now, one would believe this tower should have no troubles whatsoever.

Btw every time I see a new post in this particular thread I get all excited about some good news ... but unfortunately ...

Interesting idea, but would he have the necessary money to do so?

I don't think that this will happen any time soon (at least in its current form). Larry seeks premium prices, yet this stretch of Church St is grungy. For those who are not from NY, put 99 Church St in Google Maps.

I would not be surprised if he dumps Stern's plan and builds a less ambitious rental with more moderate hotel.

It'd be a shame if this doesn't get built. Such a classy tower.

To be honest, I'm getting a bit pessimistic here. I mean the residential / hotel market is so hot right now, that it's simply beyond me why this project hasn't restarted yet.

Does someone have full access to digital WSJ?

Silverstein Wins Loan for New Building in Lower Manhattan
http://stream.wsj.com/story/latest-h...9/SS-2-232234/

"Developer Larry Silverstein was forced to shelve a planned Lower Manhattan condo-and-hotel tower that was meant to soar above the Woolworth Building on the same block after the economy plunged in 2008. Now he’s getting another chance. Silverstein Properties Inc. has reached an agreement with a large London-based investment firm to provide a loan of [...]"
