It's a pity this is going to block the view of the canyon in the Woolworth building.

Yeah, it's going to block the Woolworth Building quite a bit from behind. But it was never as good visible as the front anyway with 101 Barclay St and Goldman Sachs blocking the views.

Huh? It will only block the Woolworth building if you are standing directly across the street from 30 Park on the west side. That would be true even if this building were only 30 stories tall.

This fills a major gap and a literal gaping hole in the ground. And the Woolworth building is still very well exposed and visible from nearly all angles.

That building in between Woolworth and Barclay in the last picture bothers me so much...

The Transportation Building, yeah, one of the worst looking buildings from the twenties.

Seems a bit silly to complain about that splinter when there's that ugly plank next door.

The Barclay is ugly, but the Transport Building is just hideous.

You mean the Barclay Tower, yeah it's not a great tower but I like the top and it has a lot of glass.

Well, I certainly can't blame them for not working in conditions like those. As cold and miserable as it has been in NYC lately, I'll be surprised if it resumes anytime soon.

If some big glass box was built here I would have a different opinion, but this is a f*cking masterpiece in the modern day! Probably my favorite u/c tower anywhere in the world right now.
Of course it's a great building because the design comes from one of the world's best architectural practices, Robert A.M. Stern. Mr. Stern's company has great empathy with surrounding aesthetics when designing new buildings and is not interested in ego trips like these so-called "starchitects" as a result you get the real deal rather than all show and no substance. It will be a beautiful building, no doubt about that.

Totally agrees. This is Stern's best work in NYC.

....meanwhile, this thing is moving fast.

South Manhattan is my favorite cluster in US. This building is another proof.

I'm still wondering where the tower crane/s are?
Seems strange that they're using a large mobile crane which will probably only reach about half way up the final thing...
