If I'm going to live in lower Manhattan, I'd live here.

One of the two best options downtown for sure along with 56 Leonard. I'm more of a modernist so I'd probably go for the latter but if I'm looking for a more classic, pre-war type look, this one is hard to beat anywhere in the city.

That's gonna be one awesome Neo Art Deco tower! Great job there, Robert Stern!

Though it could need a more detailed facade up to the top, living up to the graceful setbacked structure.

Now that's some quality cladding.

Would love to see a close-up of the detailing between those windows if anyone happens by.

Unfortunately, over on Wired NY, one of the long-time contributors posted that the cladding is not limestone, but concrete:

"I hate to bust everybody's bubble, but today I was told by workmen installing the facade panels that they're solid cast concrete, with a colored surface. A few of the panels were stacked on a truck on Park Place, ready to be hoisted up; up close it was very apparent that there's not a bit of real stone anywhere (maybe eventually there will be, way down low at sidewalk level, but not on any of the panels that have gone in so far)."

Someone else responded that the color did look too uniform to be actual limestone, which is a fair point when 30 Park Place is compared to the new Yankee Stadium, which has Indiana limestone on the exterior:

Details on the YS limestone:

If limestone looked like the facade of that stadium, it's a good thing they didn't use it here.

I wouldn't worry about it. Most articles has disclosed that this will be Limestone and a combination of. This is a fact I had always had been aware of.

As per RAMSA website it's a limestone & cast stone shaft tower.

As per In High Gear Article in NYTimes describes the towers exterior as cast-concrete and limestone
http://mobile.nytimes.com/2014/04/27...html?referrer=

Will this be clad with Indiana Limestone? If that's the case, that's is news to me. I know 15 CPW is and 520 Park a will be.

Yeah, the cladding looks tacky, uneven and plain. A major buzzkill.

Limestone or not, if it turns out like the renders, it will still be a very attractive retro design imho. I will be in the Big Apple in September so will have a look up close and let you all know whether the fake limestone works or not...

I went back to the first post on this thread and found it interesting that it said this building would be finished by 2011, by which point all five WTC Towers would be nearing completion.

It would make sense to do the lowest floors with the real stuff. From street level, one wouldn't see the difference on the higher floors.

Hopefully it will have a skyscraper in its place. Not even a restoration could save that building...
