I found something about it.

Nosy Neighbor: What’s That New Building Next to 30 Park Place?
http://tribecacitizen.com/2014/06/19...30-park-place/

To the east of 30 Park Place is what will be the new plaza, and to the east of the plaze is a narrow building under construction. Is it part of 30 Park Place? What’s it for? —M.

Good question! I’ve walked by a million times but I’m always so busy staring up at 30 Park Place that I had never noticed it. (Pictured at top: the structure as seen from Barclay; at right, as seen from Park Place.) My first thought was that it’s buttressing the building next to it, but the structure is too substantial for that.

A diagram that used to be on the Silverstein website, meanwhile, makes it look somewhat parking-garage-y (with a water feature in the middle…? For the Four Seasons mermaids?). Text continued below.

So I got in touch with the sales office, which forwarded me to the PR team. “It’s an annex building,” was the response. “It will house mechanical, loading dock and the underground garage entrance. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.” You know I do: Does a rendering showing what it will look like exist? For public consumption? Or even for the plaza? I doubt it, but one does have to ask.

Cheers

Looks like the upper half will actually be pretty glassy.

[QUOTE=hunser;118726421]Say what you want, but this tower is beautiful ...

Reminds me of 1 Wall Street:

I agree. I thought that the last time I was on the SI Ferry.

Good find! That little plaza is a pleasant surprise. Whenever you break open the street wall with a plaza, it's good to keep it relatively narrow like this, rather than the big urban plazas favored in the 50s-70s (which always wind up being lifeless).

I wonder how accessible it will be for pedestrians on the street, or if it will be more for guests/tenants/patrons only.

That adjacent space is a public plaza, not a motor court.

Super shot.

Unfortunately, This is my parting post from the forum. Bullying shouldn't be allowed. Farewell, I hope NY continues to grow and look good. Bullies cause problems, don't be a bully.

It appears to be in the 750 foot range.

I wonder if they'll ever powerwash the facade of the woolworth building so that it looks white again, and not patchy. Same with the Whitehall Building.

Some people think that the unique patina of age is one of the things that give old buildings their charm.

from Earthcam. It's nearly the tallest of the trio. I'd say in about 2 weeks Woolworth is well surpassed.

There's patina and then there's mess :P

Most old buildings in my home country look 10x better when they are restored to their original condition. They dont lose any character if it's done right.

It's a classic style of the building. I love it!
