Yea, an article mistakenly said it was because the top floor was being constructed but the crown hasn't been built yet.

It's about 860' or 260 or so meters now.

it looks like they took down SOME of the scaffolding and formwork up there today in anticipation of the big storm. I'm surprised they left any of it, I hope nothing blows away. Wind speeds 900' up are a lot higher than on the ground.

I think you just can't remove the formwork from a just poured slab. If it's not completly cured, it probably will crack.

I meant the new stuff they were putting up on top of the latest slab. Anyway thank G-d it wasn't nearly as bad as they hyped it and everything looks intact.

I'm sure he's referring to the switching center at 375 Pearl (AKA "Intergate" AKA "The Other Verizon Building") which has nearly blank concrete facades. As of this Commercial Observer article in May 2014 there was a plan to rennovate the upper half into office space, which would include recladding it with floor to ceiling windows.

Anyone know if that's still a go? I hope so; I tend to agree that it's an eyesore, and even as other great towers like 30 Park Place and 50 West go up, it's so huge it's hard to ignore.

Actually those two mid rise commie blocs on either side of the avenue are what's really hideous in this image. Look how huge they are-laterally-like a great commieblock wall blocking the much nicer looking buildings behind them. Hopefully they will be destroyed soon.

I actually don't mind those commie blocks that much. They at least blend in way better than the Verizon building.

If this tower is lit well at night, we may be in for a modern version of this iconic vista. You would probably have to find the right spot after 2 WTC is built.

I know. It has limestone cladding, not concrete.

I'm almost sure that's not true. Even that article about that renovation refers to the concrete facade... Not to make this a Verizon building thread, but can anyone settle that for sure?

(Unless you're making a joke in reference to the "limestone" on 30 Park Place, in which case, cheers)

i'm pretty sure it's limestone. Some of it might have been refurbished with concrete, idk. I never understood the hate about it.
