People used to have opinions about this cladding too, looking real good now!
56 Leonard has been my favorite tower u/c downtown but this one is really giving it a good run for its money.

If only that window border detail went up the length of the entire building, instead of just that one section.

I have to say I don't like window details on this one. They look kitchy, cheap, poorly designed and made.

30 Park Place should be admired from distance.

I agree. The ornamentation is shitty. It would be considered C-list if it were done in the 1920s. Just compare the ornamentation to the Woolworth next door to understand the real difference between kitsch and beauty.

The building is prettier than I expected, however.

Well, I personally like the this building far more than Woolworth. I think Woolworth is overly ornamental while 30 Park keeps a very nice balance between ornamentation and simplicity

ironically if anyone from the 1920s were to see the Woolworth Building today, they would say the same thing.

I don't really understand the details between the windows either. It's some kind of blocky vegetative pattern, maybe it's an abstraction of the Four Seasons logo. Maybe that explains why it's only on the hotel section. Nevertheless it looks fine, though I would have preferred a more classical pilaster-type detail. The ledges for the double height windows are a nice touch though.

The concrete panels look surprisingly decent too, not too many uneven edges, and a good color.

Agreed the cladding turned out well. I think it'll look even better with time as it adds some patina.

What I'm really waiting for is to see how the crown turns out.

Curbed has the Penthouse (floor 78 & 79) Floorplans:

As the article and some Curbed commenters noted, it's really spectacular when compared to numerous other, much more expensive penthouses that have been revealed recently. My only real complaint would be that I would prefer one of the bedrooms (if not the Master) to face North towards Midtown as opposed to the current Eastern and Southern exposures.

This tower figures magnificently on the skyline. Together with Beekman and 56 Leonard, these new 800-900 footers keep the focus on Woolworth while creating a backdrop for the much taller WTC.
