PARIS: The Canadian version

On the Grand River: Paris, Ontario
(also look at the bottom of the pics for examples of Paris' famous cobblestone houses!)

Or step out onto the wooden balcony, unaware that termites had been feasting all night!!

Flar, thanks so much for posting this thread... what a classic example of an Ontario town. I have never been there, but will remedy that situation because of your amazing photos!!

Yeah, that part by the river is really interesting, I didn't expect something like that could be found in Canada. The town itself is quite dodgy, actually.

Well, that part by the river might be a little run down, but I don't think the town as a whole looks 'dodgy'! I think it looks rather nice!

it just needs a little TLC, then throw in the odd tea house and antique store and viola!

reminds me of parts of Toronto and the like Paris' could be the new Queen street west.

But London Ontario is a much bigger place, right?

Wow! So much character! Seems like a good Valentine's Day getaway, for couples who want a cute, quiet town. Are there a lot of B&Bs?

Nice, looks just like the original!

But is it abandoned? I don't see any people walking around.

Wow...great pictures. Never knew this town even existed! It looks more like an Eastern European town than a Canadian one to me. Very unique.

So that's why it seemed dodgy to me, LOL.

Doesn't look eastern European at all. For that it would need a lot more big, concrete buildings and commieblocks in the suburbs.

the city needs some work to rejuvinate itself, but it is full of character. It's like my favourite small town in Ontario.. the first time I drove through it, randomly, because it on an old provincial highway paralleling a provincial freeway. I fell in love with it.

Not sure what there is to do there, but if you're in the area, definitely go check it out!

this town definitely looks better in the summer too, when the leaves are on the trees, everything is lush and green.

Nice pics of a great looking town!

We should have a thread called "The world in Canada" and feature all the cities/towns named after bigger world cities. (ie. London, Sydney, Cambridge etc.)

Better yet, "The world in your country" where everyone can post pics of places in their country with the same name as places in other countries.

Sounds like a good idea-- Australia has afew (Heidelberg and Dallas in Victoria, Toronto and Canada Bay in NSW, and Miami in Queensland)

Paris is actually quite nice and lively, but its a very small town (10,000).
Those buildings aren't rundown, just old and looking very dirty because it's winter. The backs of the buildings along the water look similar to the backs of old buildings anywhere, they're all in good repair.

I believe there are some bed and breakfasts, Paris is a popular town to visit in the summer. Currently it is a growing bedroom community because of its beautiful Victorian homes and proximity to Hamilton, Cambridge and Brantford.

Sydney, NS actually predates Sydney, NSW by 3 years! (1785 vs. 1788, both named after a British politician of the era)
