Olympus C-8080 WZ.

The tilting screen is a lifesaver but it refuses to focus in non optimal situations and the WB is usually off. But then, what can you expect from a camera model that is a few years old and probably worth next to nothing now, I'm still the limiting factor

I will visit some cameras stores this weekend. I'm sure it's approaching 14,000 HKD by now. Which is pretty cheap in EUR at the current rate.

Cameras :

Olympus SP-560UZ

I haven't made the jump to DLRs yet, still undecided on Nikon vs. Canon based on lens cost and bodies (aka 40D vs. D80 etc....), will make the leap soon though.

EXCELLENT!!! Enjoy the new equipment, and please let us know if you see improvements over the cheaper tripods - assuming you used cheaper ones

Looks really nice, congrats. I'm in the market for a new tripod. How much did all of this cost, if you don't mind me prying?

I had a budget for $400 for the tripod and head.

I looked at the local camera shop at several models and decided I wanted a heavy aluminum tripod with a Pan Head (typical) and I knew it would be important to look it over before a buy.

Induro (company thats new started by members of Manfrotto and Giottos) has solid professional units that seem great plus a 5 year warranty.

tripod - 199.99

Manfrotto heads are quite possibly the best and I need something reliable to hold the D200, so I liked the big pan head and it was a decent buy.

pan head - 77.00

total unit - 276.99 (before tax)

oh yea, the one before was a generic Sunpak...good tripod for a point and shoot but it can't hold a DSLR with all the battery pack/lens and flash units as a whole.

Just made the jump from Olympus SP-550UZ to Nikon D80!

Go for Nikon instead of Canon right now, both have some good low-cost dslr cameras, but looks like Nikon is a bit ahead with both D40/D40x, D80 and the upcomming D60. Also consider D200.

I am sitting here with a Nikon D80 with a 18-200mm Nikon lense which is exellent. Will buy some 10-20mm lense to, so i have the extreme wideangle.

Latest additions to my collection:

image hosted on flickr

Most of the photos I take are with my trusty little Pentax Optio WPi, 6 megapixels and waterproof to boot!

I have had the pleasure of using a Fujifilm Finepix S3pro as well as a Nikon D100 with a host of different lens.

I also regularly use my dad's old Nikon FE2, a great camera.

I've been following the recent "drama" with the D80 and D60, but ended up looking a step down for something less expensive. The 40D with kit lens is about $200-300 more than the D80 so I'm going to compare the two. Between the D40x and the Xti, I like Canon's lens availability (heard it wasn't fun dealing with the AF-I, AF-S restriction from a D40 user). Thanks for the tip, it's going to be a while before I purchase anything as I got my 560 in December 07.
