South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE) | Pulau Indah to Nilai
Work on new highway to begin
By : M.K. Megan
KUALA LUMPUR: The construction of the much-awaited South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE) from Pulau Indah to Nilai will start in a few weeks.
Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said an agreement with the bankers and the contractors was scheduled in two weeks.
"The finer details of the loan from the bank and the amount the company has to fork out will be discussed and an agreement will be signed in two weeks," he said.
In July last year, it was announced that a RM1.1 billion contract had been awarded to build the SKVE.
The expressway will also connect the Damansara Puchong Highway (LDP) interchange to Pulau Indah.
Samy Vellu, however, declined to name the company hired to do the job and the amount involved in the construction of the expressway.
The expressway would stretch for 40km from Pulau Indah and pass through Pulau Carey and Cyberjaya.
It was also reported that the contracted period to complete construction of the expressway is 42 months.
Samy Vellu said this at the launch of the new premises of Duromac (M) Sdn Bhd in Bandar Kinrara, Puchong, near here.
Duromac specialises in municipal and highway sweepers for cities, towns and highways in Malaysia.
"I believe Malaysia stands to gain much from such a keen business player and that local councils and highway operators would be at an advantage in using some of the company's many products and services."
He said Duromac was also a fine example of a culmination of various races resulting in a truly Malaysian company, which had achieved astounding success and contributed much to the Malaysian business arena.
"Let me express my hope that many more Malaysian Indian businessmen and women take the bold step to venture forth and work co-operatively with other races in participating in the nation's growth and development."

SKVE's Section 3 to help boost traffic
PETALING JAYA: Traffic at the South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE) is expected to increase 20 per cent with the opening of the new section between Teluk Panglima Garang and Pulau Indah next Tuesday.
The 19km route, referred to as Section 3, was built at a cost of RM343 million. It was completed in July and had been undergoing tests, said SKVE Holdings Sdn Bhd chief operating officer Teoh Jui Min recently.
The total cost of building Section 1B, 2 and 3 of the SKVE is RM1.1 billion.
Teoh said at present, 40,000 vehicles use the SKVE each day.
"With the opening of Section 3 - the Pulau Indah interchange - we expect the number of vehicles to rise to 50,000 a day," he said.
SKVE Holdings has a 40-year concession on the highway, starting from 2007. It was awarded the concession in August 2006.
It operates three toll plazas along the highway, namely the Air Itam toll plaza, the SKVE-Saujana Putra toll plaza and the Tanjung Panglima Garang toll plaza.
Upon the opening of Section 3, the Pulau Indah toll plaza will become operational.
Two more toll plazas in Tanjung Dua Belas and Pulau Carey will open when the interchanges linking other highways to the SKVE at those two points become operational.
The SKVE connects Putrajaya to Pulau Indah and the Westport Industrial area. Francis Dass
